Wow, I wasn't having a go at you mate. Relax a little bit. By '**** yourself over', I meant exhaust yourself, not screw up your life haha.
All I was trying to point out is that most jobs which require a uni degree pay better and offer more rewards and opportunities in the future. These days most jobs except for a trade require a uni or TAFE degree anyway

Dude. Relax.

I have relaxation running through my veins. :D

I was just throwing a car amongst the pidgeons and giving some back in the process.

In fact in all. Seriousness I'm going to have to disagree with you saying degrees always pay more. I know any people who have degrees but don't use it to their advantage and are on much less than what I and many others are on.

Uni is for some people, just some. Not all. Being in debt to be taught for 4 years for a piece of paper. Or a trade where you are paid to learn.

I quickly grew up getting my trade and basically living in a mans world so I had to grow up quick. If I chose the uni path, I highly doubt I'd be where I am now or experienced in life.

Those uni friends are still packing shelves at Safeway because they can't get into a job. ( not saying packing shelves at Safeway is not up to society standard a all) and they are all at home and all stuck paying off a debt.

Sure. When they are 45 earning 120000 a year. That's great. Hard works paid off. But you do only live once.

Got my predicted ATAR today:

67.87%

Absolutely gutted. Was realistically hoping for a push toward 80, expecting a mid 70's. Philosophy gets scaled down 15%, which ruined my average - and with that average, I would've been getting close to, if not, 80's.

Anyone do Philosophy last year? What was your scaling like?

Don't take that as much of an indication, that is most likely based on last years results and scalings. It all depends on the average results of students and how subjects get scaled this year.

If the average is higher then your ATAR will be lower, if they are lower then your ATAR will be higher.

It all depends on where you lie on the bell curve when it is determined once all results are in. The closer to the mid point the less your score will change.

Ahah, its all good. I thought you were gettin a bit fired up cos u misread my post, thats all :thumbsu: Yeah, I know that uni doesn't always mean a better job but generally it still is the case. All that money and time has to pay off somehow. And don't get me wrong, there are plenty of trades and the like which pay brilliantly as well. Some courses are really pretty useless but I'm looking at studying medicine and I know very well that if I can get a job in that then I'll be laughing
Anyway, I'm still in school so I'm not gonna argue over finance and sh*t when I don't know a hell of a lot about salary.

Very happy right now. The AFL's back on free to air television here (as well as being on pay television too), and next year will have more coverage than ever. Bloody good, sick of sky television and their persistence at showing all games delayed from midnight just so they can screen bullshit rugby union repeats.

I asked this question before on the 'IC 2011 jumpers' thread but you didn't reply :p How 'big' is footy over there in NZ? Do many people play it or know how to kick a footy? Are there many local clubs? Can you buy footy gear from the shops? Do you here much of it in the media (radio, newspaper, tv, etc)?

Don't bother answering all of those questions directly if you don't wanna but just use them as guiding questions (if you know what I mean). I'm just interested as to how long it might be before the AFL starts playing matches or even having a team over there. Do you think it will ever really take off?

Didnt check to see the question sorry .

I was born in New Zealand, but grew up around Australian family, so I'd like to think I offer a fair opinion.

-Fairly well played. Something like 35,000 participants at last count (including KiwiKick as well). As for clubs, 6 play in the Auckland Australian Football League (North Shore, University, Mount Roskill, Waitakere, Manurewa and Pakuranga; Takapuna was dissolved into North Shore). 4 play in the Canterbury Australian Football League (Christchurch, University, Eastern Suburbs and Mid Canterbury; A Dunedin team also plays regular games against these clubs). Hamilton has two teams (Mavericks and Tuis) that play against each other and in the Wellington Australian Football League there are four clubs (Hutt Valley, North City, Eastern Suburbs and Wellington).

-Australian Rules has a very long history in the country (back to about 1868 when it was first played on the Otago goldfields). In the 1900s Auckland (Imperial/Newton, Victoria, Eden, Austral), Wellington (City, Newtown, Wanderers, Petone, Federal) and Christchurch (City Wanderers, Sydenham, Woolston, Imperial and Carlton) had established leagues as well as other clubs scattered about the country. After the first world war, seemingly very few of the players returned and the leagues pissed away into insignificance until about 1970, where Auckland, Canterbury and Wellington had leagues re-set up. Plenty of VFL players over the years were New Zealanders (Joe Sellwood of Geelong, Thomas O'Halloran of Richmond, Peter Bennett of Essendon and Warren Jones of Carlton to name a few from memory). Recently you've had Wayne Schwass and Trent Croad, as well as Savage, Hunt and Renouf currently Kiwi borns on senior lists. As well as others like Dustin Martin, Paul Bower and Aaron Edwards with strong New Zealand links.

-Most Kiwi sports fans at least have an idea of what Australian Rules is. You're more likely to find awareness in a place like Auckland, where it is not all rugby bloody union. You can buy Sherrins and the likes at Rebel Sport AFAIK. Borders used to have a good AFL book selection before it went arse over **** and now they've flogged off everything. Can't buy the Record in New Zealand (pre-season/gf editions) somewhat annoyingly though.

-Gets a bit of media coverage. Never gets on the main network news (reserved purely for league, union and perhaps netball). Can catch up on all the footy news through Fox Sports news here though. Local footy and the AFL get a bit of print in the New Zealand Herald and it gets a bit of talk (fair bit around grand final week) on the radio. Though the game seems to get the most exposure when Fev goes out and does something stupid.

-Plenty of people watch the game and have teams they follow, even if ever so casually. You'll always see a couple of people about town in their jumpers, especially in summer.

Western Bulldogs trying to bring games here instead of Canberra/Darwin. Bookmark 2012/2013. Team would be a wee while off yet and Auckland would be the only viable place (though would need to build a bloody oval stadium. The rugby puffs can keep Eden Park.). You'd still rely on Auckland's expat Australian population (numbers something around 30-40,000, same as the number of Kiwis in Perth) to turn up though. Hope that provided a bit of insight :).

Cheers mate, that was a quality read and lots of good information :thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

The game is a fair bit bigger over there than I would have imagined, going by your info. It might not be quite so off of being a world game than I thought. Never thought of the NZ team not getting much attendance away from home though

Andrew embley went off twice under the blood rule tonight.
Three jumpers he went through.

On the third time he should have come out with a new number. Unless the law has changed. Will we get fined???????

Why do you have to come out with a new number when you've reached your third jumper? This is a sincere question, not a snarky comment. I always assumed that the club took a primary jumper, a secondary jumper, and an array of random jumpers to games - you know, so you might have 78, 87, 90, and 92 in M, and 66, 67, 70, and 85 in L or something.

So here's my first attempt at a jumper in Photoshop. It was intended to be a V design for Pie's AFL Rebooted competition, but I figured seeing that I have NO IDEA what I'm doing, I'll post it, get feedback, and tips on how to use the damn program. Paint is sooo much simpler at least for me, but it's just not getting the results I want in competitions. I'm using CS5, and Cory's under armour template

Sorry to all the Collingwood fans on this board, but I must say I enjoyed every second of that obliteration by Geelong tonight :D You all know the rivalry between our two clubs and I really do love nothing more than seeing Collingwood (and Adelaide :p) get SMASHED!!! Hope to see a repeat in the finals series too...

PortBrilliance, if you're reading this thread, can I ask if you were serious in that gay AFL players thread?

Looks like it might become an actual away jumper, which would give North a wonderful set of jumpers. Not only would it create a good distinction (and with the utilisation of white shorts on the home kit, avoid almost all clahses), but they'd have two bold looking strips.

Was at the Adelaide Oval today, and it was fantastic! The weather was perfect, the crowd was good and the match itself was good. There was no allocated seating so we took a move from the stands (where we usually sit at AAMI) to front-row seats. The atmosphere is a hell of a lot better than AAMI and with a decent crowd (30,000) it felt like an AFL match again. Was very proud of my club, putting in a good effort for 7/8 of our last quarters of the 2011 season and it gives me some more belief going into next season. Was great to get off the bottom of the ladder and send off Broges in the best way possible :thumbsu: Really can't wait for AFL footy to move to the city full-time, the stadium really will be amongst the best in the country.
Guernsey-wise, I was also able to see a lot more, being much closer to the action. Port were again wearing our foundation leaders guernsey (with the names on it) and I was actually able to see the names close-up. They are very faint and not much more than a watermark. Was also able to notice the pinkness in Melbourne's guernsey whenever it got a bit of sunlight in it. Something NB and the club really need to look at addressing next year

Was going to post this in here but forgot - went to the Footy Show filming on Thursday night, great stuff, very funny and there are a lot of things happening that you don't see on TV :thumbsu:

Jealous!!!

What are some examples of what happens that isn't on TV? I've always imagined that there would be plenty else but have always wondered what...

More misogyny, lame jokes, and boys clubb-ery than usual?

Sadly true. It's a stain on the true comedy that can come from this sport. And I don't say that sarcastically, either.

I think you'll find a similar attitude with soccer in the UK.
Rugby League in the UK is much more female friendly - but the racism is also much less of a problem when compared to soccer. I know some NRL bashers will find that hard to believe.
