Eh, we can't win them all. Lescott has to go though. He's becoming a real passenger.

My team for boxing day would be...

1. Watson
2. Warner
3. Marsh/Khawaja
4. Ponting
5. Clarke
6. Hussey
7. Wade
8. Siddle
9. Pattinson
10. Cutting/Starc/Copeland
11. Lyon

Now here's my reasoning...

There's no way that Warner can be dropped after he almost single handedly completed the run chase yesterday. If Watson is fit then I see no other place to have him than openning with him. If not I believe that Marsh can open and Khawaja remains as first-drop batsman. If Khawaja doesn't perform then I think he should be replaced with Dan Christian and Ponting returns to the #3 batting position and Christian slots into #6. I also think that Ponting and Hussey should be allowed to play as long as their bodies allow them as they will be good mentors for the younger players.

I think that Haddin should be replaced with Wade, although I would never think the selectors would do this for a while. I think that the keeping spot requires a person who can stay there for a while and IMO Wade's the man.

Siddle led the young bowling attack quite well in the last 2 tests match as well as bowling well and should retain his place. Pattinson was a deserved man of the series and should be named in the side after his two 5 wicket hauls. I think that Starc should be given some more time in the wings, in the last 2 test matches I think that in some spells he was bowling well for little reward and in others he was off target and got smashed around the ground. I think another summer of Sheffield Sheild would make him right for next summer. Lastly, Lyon looks like the most promising spinner since Warney retired. Was a stand out in the disappointing loss to the Kiwis.

Tim Paine is still ahead of Wade imo. Has been ultra consistent for about the past four years and has proven he is more than capable on the national stage. I'm not saying he will get picked, as they'll stick with Haddin but he will be fit by Boxing Day.

Disagree. He has played his best cricket in the past few years. Watch him in the Big Bash, he'll be back and firing.

Glad to see the eagles pick up a few Mid West/Geraldton boys in the rookie draft I'm good mates with Simon Tunbridges cousin and he played for my footy team Railways. Played footy with a few Papertalks in Mullewa

Really happy with Port's selections too. McCarthy was a shock but good mature selection I thought. What do you pies fans think of him? Haven't actually seen a lot of him tbh.
Pfeiffer is talked up to be the goods too. Next Michael Barlow? Hopefully ;)
And Danny Butcher, what more can I say about him? Being the brother of the one and only (John ), he's destined to be a star. As a mdifielder, my tip for next year's Brownlow ;) In all seriousness though, seems pretty good. Won the b&f for Gippsland and came runner up for b&f in the whole TAC cup

I played colts with Marley Williams, who has now gone to Collingwood. That would be so surreal.

I don't know shit about who Essendon have taken. But hopefully they'll be useful.

Continuing this thing I have with jumping in the pool when its 25 degrees and pissing......Pretty cold in it today actually.

Smart move by port picking up Danny Butcher. Obviously their trying their hardest not to lose John Butcher

Nah, we won't lose him ;) Just the thought of two Butchers in one team gets me a tad excited though :D Just imagine the commentary

"Butcher, Danny that is, gets the ball palmed down his throat by Renouf yet again on the members wing. That's his 35th disposal already, as usual this bloke's on fire! Breaks through traffic, screaming away towards the half-forward flank. One bounce...... make that two! And now a looooong kick towards goal but it looks to be dropping short. OH! WAIT A SEC! Up goes brother John, soaring way over the top of the pack! WHAT A MARK! Straight in front of goal, this should be his 10th. The Power look certain to kick onto the Grand Final next week now, the lead's blown out to 62, 18 minutes into the third term. Aren't these Butcher boys something special?" :p

Tell him he's dreaming. ;)

Me and PAFC are now in love, have a beach side shack in Frankston, and are ready to welcome a new child into our life.
 F,f,f,frankston

Btw PAFC, McCarthy is an alright player but in the end was just pushed out by better midfielders. Failed under pressure and lacked consistency in his game. Playing in so many big games for a club like collingwood didn't help to because when he was brought into the side he was always under pressure.

Might struggle a bit with all the gun midfielders at port ;) Might add to that playing in all those finals and big games ;)

Good old Frankston. Paradise for liberal-voting, ugg boot wearing, ferrari driving, Kennett loving, cashed up bogans.

As they say, I  Frankston :p

Edit: Actually sounds more like Craigieburn when I think about it.

Cheeky ;) He's still only young though so certainly has his best footy ahead of him, could never be expected to push out a Swan or Pendlebury. He's a project player and will develop with the rest of our list. From what I have seen and heard though he seems to go alright. Collingwood seemed to wanna hang onto him so he can't be too bad. Don't worry though, he'll play in enough finals and big games before his career ends with us ;) As we all know, two Butchers in one team is almost certain to bring success ;)

What I don't understand is why Port opted for him over Davis, besides his age, what does he bring to the table that Davis doesn't? Davis was in career best, AA form and had openly expressed that he wanted to continue his future at either a SA or WA club, while McCarthy had said that he wanted to go to Richmond. I understand that Port are a developing club, but I'd still take Davis over McCarthy any day of the week. No disrespect to McCarthy either, he's a solid player.

Well, we aren't gonna win a flag within the next 2 or 3 years so we may as well get someone who'll last. Realistically Davis is still quite inconsistent and his age certainly doesn't help. Put him in a young, inexperienced and lower-rate side and its quite likely his form will slip back again. McCarthy on the hand is at that stage where he's still young and developing but has a bit of experience and a mature body. Has far more to offer in the long-term and helps to fill the more important need in the midfield. That's where we've been struggling most recently. Plus his financial demands were too much so it worked better to get someone of his age and caliber than Davis'
I'm happy with the decision and I think the club's made the right one
