Yellow Peril's just a phase highlighted by its use this year and the sheer amount of adoring WC fans on this board. The eagles won't use it for another 10 years and soon enough people will get over it again soon enough.

Most users on this board are fans of the yellow peril and I highly doubt we won't see it for another 10 years considering it got so many sales, also, people have been suggesting it to be used as WCE clash for a few years now.

The prison bars are a true iconic, intimidating and traditional design which actually has true meaning to the club (WC is a franchise).

Port Power isn't?:o

Eagles fans have called for the yellow peril since it was used in 05, to say we'll forget about it for 10 years is complete rubbish.

Plus we've worn it in the AFL more than Port Powers worn the prison bars in the AFL

And I'd much rather support a 'franchise' with 50k members and 3 flags than a 'club' with 15k and 1

Port adeliade tryed to enter the vfl & afl on a few occasions & got knocked back.
Port adelaide football club were not like my club west coast and the club actually wad named & created in late october 1986 . West coast & brisbane were pretty much rushed into the vfl at the time. There is a difference i agree with you pafc.

Imo west coast adelaide fremantle & gc & gws are the true franchises atm.
( brisbane follows the history of fitzroy)
( port the history of port magpies. )
( sydney history of south melbourne)

Not saying people haven't always appreciated it but now moreso than ever as it has been used twice this season. Prison bars haven't been used for 4 years so people have 'forgotten' about them a bit if you like.
Yeah may return as a clash but in a modern and much poorer form. Would still be the best alternative for a clash but I can guarantee no one would like it as much as the original and that's far too dated and out of place to return on a full-time basis

Only cos we were forced to come up with a new nickname upon entry to the AFL. Still called the magpies in the SANFL. Furtherest thing from a franchise, can't believe anyone would suggest that. 140 years and 37 premierships of history suggest otherwise...

Don't go calling other teams franchises, PAFC. We get it, 1870, Live the Creed, all that BS. Your last few posts reek of bias.

Yeah I edited that straight away, realising that it could stir trouble. Obviously not quick enough :o I admitted my posts are biased too but still no more than E92's. I like the peril, just don't think its comparable to the prison bars. As bradles said, the peril was only worn in 25 or so games, the prison bars have been worn for 125 years and 30+ flags. Of course the design doesn't play a big part in how strong a team is but the history, meaning and success that that jumper represents is not comparable to anything else. When you put on that jumper you have an obligation to perform at a high standard. There's just a natural intimidation factor that no other jumper possesses, not just some logo and retro text. I think it's something you can't fully understand without living in SA and appreciating the SANFL.
Anyway as I said, pointless comparing jumpers like this. Don't want another big shitfight. Let's just agree that they're both very good (and different) jumpers

Where???? The 25 eagles supporteres on this thread represent the whole club?
Its in the past we move foward. I never want to see us wear that yellow jumper ever again tbh.

We wore it in 2005 2011 good enough move foward

It hasn't exactly been forgotten about but just particularly 'rehyped' on this board this year, as the prison bars would have been if they'd been used this year. All I'm suggesting is that if you'd brought this debate up after heritage rd 07 the board's consensus may have been much different.
In the AFL, yes, but in the clubs' histories, no. If it was such a great jumper it would still be in permanent use today.
30k members and 37 senior flags (+ 4 champions of Australia) actually. Wait for the move to Adelaide oval and for our list to redevelop and well be a completely new club again

Also, bradles I agree with everything you're saying :thumbsu:

I hate when people say that your team is a franchise and not a true club, just because Port is an older club than WCE it doesn't make it any more or less of a club, every club started somewhere.

The same can be said about the bars, why can't Port wear it every year or two?

If the yellow peril wasn't a great jumper the club wouldn't have sold out of the jumpers.

30k members

Too bad only about half that actually show up to games.

The eagles won't use it for another 10 years and soon enough people will get over it again soon enough. If Port wear the prison bars next year the same thing will happen, everyone will fall in love with it again. Don't get me wrong, the peril is good but very dated and overrated. A modern version would look nowhere near as good either meaning its doubtful to make a full-time return anytime soon.

What do you mean a modern version wouldn't look as good? There have been modern versions. One was worn last season. Even with numbers and letters spoiling the design, it didn't lose any charm. Personally, I find the wings design to be a rare show of individuality in the AFL. It's identifiable, and it looks pretty well great. And I say this as someone who isn't at all fond of the West Coast Eagles.

Exactly this.

PAFC, I've been on your case before. I don't want to risk getting a card. But this is a board in which bias should be kept to a minimum. If you think the prison bars are the best, then perhaps respect those who don't think it is.

Don't be so conceited. Realise that you have an opinion. It is as valid as that of anyone else. It is not better than anyone else's.

Also, you say the prison bars isn't great only on its design. You believe the connotations of success and silverware makes it great. But then you say the reason the Peril isn't as pleasing, is because it was worn in 25-odd games? Double standards going on.

Your bias toward everything is arrogant and almost disrespectful to that of other supporters.

And I mean, aren't Port Adelaide just the Collingwood of South Australia? Even in 1970s Western Australia, my dad and his friends knew Port were bogans.

He is not being bloody biast. He is simply stating the facts.

Look at heritage round 2007

West coast wear a w.a state team jumper ( not even linked to west coast)
Port wear there prision bars
Go figure?

Pafc i totally agree with what you say. Your not being biast.

Hey E92, Miami lost. ;)

I'll destroy you, doc. :p

Unfortunately the Heat sometimes have a problem with letting teams get back into the game. :(

That Heritage round was based on 1970's jumpers, since the Eagles weren't around back then we wore something that represented W.A. footy in the 70's. PA were around back then so they wore the bars. I don't really see your point here.

But if it was so important, West Coast would've worn it in the 70s

Yellow Peril is a classic and IMO the best guernsey in the AFL.

Yellow Peril is a classic

This, the wings/yellow peril is one of the most (if not the most) unique designs in the AFL, while on the other hand the prison bars are pretty much a slightly different take on a normal striped jumper.

This is why I think the jumper is so overrated it's not that unique at all, sure it's a pretty good design and I quite like the jumper (probably the best Port jumper there is IMO) but there's not really a huge difference between it and other striped jumpers. Again, this is just my opinion.

Omega, you have me hooked on Sporcle once more. By the way guys, I'm sure we could do an Australian sports logos quiz with a bit of photoshop magic - collaborative effort :)

Also I just had another stab at the World Flags quiz, got 188/196 with no prior research. The West African countries are definitely the hardest with all their red, yellow and green flags. I always seem to miss different, random flags though every time I try.

Ones I missed out on this time:
Senegal (annoyed. Eto'o!!!)
Guatemala (knew it was a Central American but couldn't put my finger on it)
Paraguay
Ecuador (two big misses there)
Belarus (was well off with this one. Thinking one of the "stans")
Luxembourg (shattered. Knew it was next to Liechtenstein and started with L)
Kuwait (also knew this was a Middle Eastern country but didn't get the right one)
Libya (can not blame me here. They are no longer all green!)

The link is here if anyone wants to have a go. http://www.sporcle.com/games/g/worldflags
