Same in New York! My first purchase in the US was this pair of Nike Air Force 1's... Been a couple of years since I've bought a pair of casual shoes that weren't Vans; these fit really well and are a lot better for long walks.

Btw - have I missed anything important on BF over the last few days? I can only get on sporadically, maybe once every couple of days for like 10 minutes
