Get out! That's my hometown! You totally picked the wrong time to check it out, I could've shown you the ropes. I mean, there are only like three ropes, but I could've shown them too you.

Where are you staying? How long are you there for? Middleton Beach is basically perfect. Long, no seaweed, no rips, perfect water. There are two new bars down there, I left before they opened, but everyone says they're grouse. Go down to Three Anchors – one of my old mates, his step-sister owns the place, which is impressive for a 23-year old. Then a little further up the road, there's a place called Rats – pretty good as well, apparently.

I spent 17 years there and by the end, I was aching to get out. When I was in Perth I didn't miss it too much. But when you get to Melbourne... I just missed the little things. I'd always lived about a ten minute walk from Mids, so I miss that easy access to beaches that aren't grey-sanded. It's so picturesque but the honchos have no money and can't embrace it. We're going to have the 100th anniversary of the ships leaving for the war; Albany was the last bit of Australia plenty of people saw. Unfortunately, it'll be a bit of an embarrassment. The world's eye will be on the place, and it could've invigorated and changed the place (ala Freo and the America's Cup). Hopefully it goes okay, though.

Sweet SA, didn't realise this was your hometown. Only got here last night so haven't had too much time to explore outside of the main town strip yet. We're staying in a little cottage place in Spencer Street, quite old and a little under furnished but it does the job.

Cheers for the tip, will definitely check out Middleton now. We're heading to the races today but besides that don't have too much planned, which is nice really. I'm only here until the 23rd but let me know if you have any other tips of things to do/see.

The shape of the A-League trophy is round. Not sure whether that is why they brought that, but last year some people brought toilet seats.

Playing cricket at the nets. I got a short one that I tried to pull on the leg side which was about chest height. I top edged it straight into my chin.
