I can and I will. If you know the facts, then you'll also know that it makes less sense to believe they are separate entities.

Are GWS and UWS different clubs? How about Brisbane Lions and the Brisbane Lions reserves? Or Collingwood and Collingwood reserves?

In 1996/97, PAFC moved from the SANFL to the AFL, added teal to their guernsey and became the Power. In 1996/97 the SANFL created a whole new club to fill the void of the PAFC. They created Port Adelaide Magpies Football Club (PAMFC) who were based in Ethleton, not Alberton, where the PAFC were. This meant the PAFC in the AFL was the same club that was established in 1870.

In 2010/11, the PAFC (dating back to 1870) and the PAMFC (dating back to 1996) were 'merged'. This basically meant that the PAFC took full control of the PAMFC and whatnot.

but how can they both have 1870 on there gurnseys

the power started in 1997
magpies started in 1870

Actually the original Port Adelaide Football Club which is playing in the AFL now, started in 1870. They then moved from the SANFL to the AFL in 1997, changing the first team's name to the Port Power. They're still the same club from 1870 though.

The Magpies that were in the SANFL up until 2011, actually only started in 1997. The 1870 on their jersey signified that they were taking over the historical SANFL place of the original Port Adelaide Football Club, since the original club had moved on to the AFL.

Now that the SANFL Magpies have been taken over by the original Port Adelaide Football Club; they both wear the 1870 as their original starting date.

The 1870 does not represent the first year that the teams were given either of the names, Magpies or Power. If this was the case, then Port Adelaide would wear 1902 on the Magpies jersey and 1996 on the Power jersey.

The year 1870 represents the beginning of the original Port Adelaide Football Club. Both teams are a part of that one club, which is why they wear 1870 on their jerseys. The years that they first used "Magpies" or "Power" are irrelevant to what the year number represents.

Firstly, the moniker of Power was adopted in 1996, while the moniker of the Magpie was adopted in 1902.

But, we're not talking about monikers or nicknames, we're talking about clubs. And, in that case, the Power (i.e. the entity of) was established in 1870 and the current Magpies (entity of) was established in 1996.

The magpies started in 1870 and they have remained in the SANFL ever since. The Power franchise just uses the port name as it is a composite side just as the Adelaide Crows were and still are just as every AFL franchise team is NOW. (They are all franchise composite teams NOW)

No.. Adelaide are a composite team because they represent and drew their innitial playing roster from All SANFL Clubs. The Power represent one area, from one club, one region- they are not a composite of different clubs

4321, most people alter their views to fit the facts. You, however, are altering the facts to fit with your views, which essentially means you fall into one of the upper echelons of insanity. The purely incorrect vitriol which you have spewed from your keyboard and onto here can be optimistically described as frivolous (at best) but should be more accurately described as wilful ignorance of reality. Go see a psychiatrist before you hurt someone, please. For society's sake - seek help.

(Just teasing, but seriously, Port moved from the SANFL in 1996 to the AFL in 1997 and a new team (PAMFC) was created. If you refuse to believe the facts, I'm done talking with you)

And, for the record, Port Adelaide doesn't represent an area, it represents a club. Nothing composite about it.
