I saw a news article stating Aus was in the midst of a (record setting?) heat wave.

Well, if you want to cool off real quick, I thought I'd share our weather with you. If we mix the two, it might be quite nice outside.

Right now, we're at -8° (-22° celsius). Our temps tonight should be -20° or less (that's about -29° celsius), and with the wind factored in, it should be -40° or even colder (which oddly is the same in fahrenheit or celsius). Frostbite on exposed skin within minutes.

I hate winter. Still waiting for global warming to kick in locally. :(

SE Queensland is just coming out the other side. Only 27 today after being 42 three days ago.

Had to check on a converter to see what that was in fahrenheit. ;)

Yikes! 27° sounds great. 42° sounds like a day to hit the swimming pool and stay in the water all day. :D

I'm not a climate change sceptic or anything. But come on, why are people seriously so amazed that it's 40 degrees in Queensland? Come on, this is a hot country with a consistently hot summer climate. You add some degradation to the earth's natural climate eveners and it's entirely unsurprising.

Along with sharks, king hits, and cyclones, the media just get such a hard-on talking about heat.
 
Also, anyone in Sydney, make sure you get outta Cape Cod tonight and go see Vampire Weekend on Wednesday or Thursday or whenever it is. You'll have a bingin' time.
 
I'm quite happy with the weather in Melbourne at the moment. I perfer cooler temperatures. Not minus 20 though :P
