Just found another obscure American reference to footy. This is from the TV show Cheers in the 1980s, probably about the time ESPN was broadcasting VFL matches at night/early morning. (Shelly Long left the show in 1987, I think, which could have been one of the two years ESPN had footy matches in the 80s.)
