every now and then I try to find stuff about my grandfather (didn’t grow up with my dad so only found out later). He was WO2 in the AATTV. Found this book last night and can’t wait to read it. He served in the unit in 67/68 & 70&71. Was awarded the the Cross of Gallantry with silver star and a Bronze Star with a V for valour.

Bloke did 386 days in Korea in 53/54. Must have seen some s**t.

Ruined him though. Took his life in 90. I don’t think I ever met him.

Apparently the unit was the most decorated Australian unit of the Vietnam war. According to my dad he never excepted his medals.

Have you seen the footage of Pence staring at the men crammed standing room only into cages? The expression on his face made my blood chill. Just this calm, serene observance. If that was the Trump administration's attempt at looking like they care, it not only failed miserably, it made them look even more ruthless and cold.

Yeah man, Korea is often the real "forgotten war" - and Australians did some amazing and horrific fighting there.

Defending isolated snowy mountaintops against human wave attacks by Chinese and North Koreans that would seem to never end, real awful stuff.

That said, the Americans bombed North Korea harder than they did Germany or Japan a few years earlier, they basically levelled the entire country, devastated it. "We're going to leave it a desert" the psycho MacArthur said.

If the Iranians start blasting F22s and B1s and Tomahawks out of the sky on Day One of an air campaign, as the Global Hawk shootdown proved they can, then goodbye that remaining pillar of US geo-political posture.

The American air force is very impressive when its raining death on guerillas armed with no AA capacity beyond some rusty SAM7s left over from the 80s.

If they take on the Iranians, armed to the teeth with S-400s and Iglas and all kinds of latest Russian good s**t, well, it will be a very different story.
