There are alot more guns in the US and industries built around them.

The US is a pathological society. Individualism, taking things to extremes and solving problems by shooting them are its founding tenets. Not freedom or anything else.

Here are two songs about guns that sum up the US nicely.

Speaking of the US and walls tho there was a band called insurge back in the 90s and they wrote a song about immigration into the US called weight of the world.

It had some very astute observations in the lyrics singing about US tv being beamed into Mexico, Central and South America - "advertise a bullshit lifestyle and immigration is your new problem" then arksed "what will you do you gonna build big walls? Around your country?"

20 years later a bloke got elected for promising to do exactly that. I mention that merely because the world is a funny place sometimes.

Kangaroos4eva have you ever seen the video where the chase scene from that mad max in your avatar is mixed to the the song Road Train by King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. Its great.

This is one of the worst comments I've read on big footy. You talk about US issues but then refer to the wall. He wants to close the border so more money and time can be spent on US issues and the US people first and foremost.

Who was in power during the Flint fiasco? Obama. He played a part in that saga as did other democrats.

The gun issue has been an issue for decades. Of course he calls out fake news. The news discovered a long time ago that drama sells and Trump has been like gold for them. It's kept them ticking over and getting views. How about call out the news that have been peddling a 'Russian collusion' narrative for 3 years now. Or Pelosi, schumer and other democrats that have hamstrung Trump with the wall despite Trump asking for less money to fix illegal immigration than Bill Clinton, Obama, and Chuck Schumer. Don't believe me - listen to the words themselves:

Of course it's only racist when Trump says it :$

Obama put kids in cages:

The report that outlines that 95% of migrant children have been reunited with their families or sponsors.

"Of the 1,603 discharged children, 1,546 children—or 95 percent—were either reunified with an individual sponsor or released to a parent. Specifically, 1,061 children were released to a parent and 485 children were reunified with an individual sponsor.

No one ever thinks as to why the children are separated at the border. It's no different to a child in the US if they are with their dad while he commits a crime - they are separated. To keep the child safe. As AOC incorrectly pointed out "but it's not a crime" - as the previous ICE director rightly pointed out, it is a crime to cross the border illegally. The hint is in 'illegal' immigration. A number of children/girls have been r*ped and assaulted crossing the border. Some have been kidnapped in Mexico so that the adult has a better chance of crossing the border with a child.

unemployment at 3.7% which is near it's lowest level in almost 50 years.

Canada-US-Mexico deal is better than the previous NAFTA agreement.

You are falling for the narrative hook line and sinker if you're getting this angry. You're right. It's all done to pull the wool over your eyes but at least try and make up your own opinions before using cliche MSM talking points.

Feminist! :moustache:

I don't mind her. I dislike the censorship stuff she's peddling but 3 weeks...come on...I could have waltzed into NZ and got that done after the Christchurch incident. It made sense and was an easy sell which is why everyone was on board with it.

Ffs mate. Stop spamming me when you respond.

Trumps whole thing was ‘Make America Great Again’. So far he has failed to make America great again. Face it mate he’s just like the rest of them. He’s a greedy narcissist who only cares about his brand. Yeah he took on problems that were there before he was elected, so has every single president that came before him.

Do you really think building a wall will help the 40 million American citizens living below the poverty line?

As for who was in power when Flint kicked off, I couldn’t care less, Trump is supposed to make America great again because the politicians before him ****ed up. Why isn’t he prioritising his own people and helping them? I mean he showed how much he cared about making America great again with the resources he poured into Puerto Rico with amazing speed.

Yeah the cities I mentioned earlier like Chicago were already in disarray before he became president, but what has trump done to get the people back on their feet to help make America great again? That was his promise after all.

But yeah, the biggest problem in America is the border.

Hey groin, if you feel like some light reading, you should look up Mexican circular migration. It has been going on since before the constitution of the United States was even written up. Mexicans only started to migrate to America and stay there after the bogus ‘war on drugs’ became a thing and the yanks started to protect the boarder and made it too hard to cross, putting a stop to circular migration. (There was also this crazy scheme during WW1 that encouraged Mexicans to come over to help out the farmers, Mexican workers at the time were officially referred to as wetbacks, yep that’s where that saying comes from). Then America just thought they could switch it off and go back to the way it was before the war. Ahhh those silly pricks ey.

anyway, BUID THE WALL! BUILD THE WALL!

There's an amazing Woodie Guthrie song called "Deportees" about a plane full of immigrant workers that crashed at Los Gatos canyon 70+ years ago. Once upon a time California was part of Mexico. The US took it after a war with mexico, within a week or two of someone finding gold there iirc.

I'll post a version in the music thread.

Canada and NZ’s leaders are too busy moral grandstanding, amongst other severe issues, to be laughing at other countries.
Again politics is politics.
And agree to disagree. Of the English speaking nations - US, UK and us are a joke

Personally I don’t think he makes any decisions. He’s surrounded himself with people that he has make decisions for him and he’s just the mouthpiece.

I think there's definitely some truth to that. Alluding to an earlier post of mine, I'm with Chomsky on this one - Trump is merely a distraction. A brash, cartoonish, showman-type figure designed to draw attention away from some of the more sinister policies of the Republican leadership (and the pointy-end powerbrokers and various multi-national heads who map the Republican Party's direction).

Unfortunately those people are just ego padders or they get fired.

As above, some yes (men), some not.

But talking of Trump and walls and Chomsky, I'm reminded of an apparent anomaly that Chomsky was highlighting in an interview I was watching of him a few months back. Gave me a chuckle.

As we've seen in the past, Donald has never been a huge one for global warming. Just last year his response to the (Trump Government-commissioned) National Climate Assessment, which detailed the devastating impact that climate change will have on the US economy, was - quote - "I don't believe it".

He then went on to deflect (in rather confusing manner) by saying the following - "And here's the other thing - you're going to have China, and Japan, and all of Asia, and all these other countries(?) - you know it addresses(?) our country. Right now we're at the cleanest we've ever been, and that's very important to me. But if we're clean but every other place (huh, it's 'every other place' now?) is dirty, that's not so good."

(Which is 'fake news' anyway - for instance, Japan sits 7 spots ahead of the US' 27th placing on the universally-recognised Environmental Performance Index.)

However, at the same time as he continues to down-play the effects of climate change, Trump International Golf Links have sought, and been granted, permission to build a 'sea wall' to protect one of his golf courses in Ireland from rising sea levels as a result of global warming.

Seems legit.

Excellent post TOD. Spot-on, as always.

With respect to golf courses and climate change - these stats are specific to Palm Springs, but I suspect they'd be fairly representative of golf courses wherever, all things being equal when it comes to the basic water requirements to keep a blade of grass green and tidy, and especially so in these times of consistently hotter summers in most parts of North America.

Keep on taking, One Percenters. Enjoy your golf. Don't worry about the rest of the planet, it's all good.

I listed a gov report, video and photographic evidence. You responded with baseless emotion with MSM talking points.

Quite simply. Thousands of illegals cross each day and the US spends a tonne dealing with that. You stop that and you can use those funds for better causes. Quite simple and logical...

That's politics in a nutshell. Promise and takes forever to deliever. What takes even longer is when the opposing party blocks everything because they are petty. Schumer wanted billions to fix fences and illegal immigration in 2006. Schumer in 2018 says it's not right. He and Pelosi block funding of the wall. How is it different now? Clinton and Obama said it was an issue and wanted to fix it. Now if you say "illegal" you'rea racist lol.

You also realise a lot of these issues are state related right? Some of those states are run by the democrats. Perhaps brush up on your US politics before condemning trump for every issue on the globe.

This story picks up a few themes we've discussed in this thread.

Notably - why national borders are by and large very different to the borders in people's heads and the potential for private armed groups to supersede a state.

Slightly reminiscent of the Black Band.

Did you ever read John Robb's blog during the 00s?

Following up on the song, very good, although I still prefer the original score as I am big fan of drum beats.

Obama was another war mongering corporate stooge but you are wrong about that.

I would ask how but I know what you're gonna say and its wrong. So don't bother.

It’s weird how people don’t make as much of a fuss about innocent people killed during drone strikes as they would if group of soldiers walked into an apartment building and murdered every man woman and child because they think there’s a terrorist in one of the rooms. Those soldiers would be tried for war crimes.

That’s what drone strikes did and under Obama they were at record levels. He was a war monger alright, just a smooth one.

Drones strikes were originally governed by a long-term cost analysis, including death rates in the short and long term. Sacrifice the few for the many mentality.

With the rise of the third offset, ai drones and jets, the cost benefit approach is only going to continue.

You’re right but it’s still wrong

I wrote a big whinge on a blog about it once. While I approve of killing the Jonas brothers as a general principle, at almost the exact moment Obama made this joke:

Predator drones were killing underage kids in backwater Pakistan. (The Jonas brothers were u18 at the time iirc.)

**** Obama.
