I don't think Israel actually want a war with Iran though because it would mean mass civilian casualties within Israels borders by Iranian missiles and ongoing by proxy attacks. Sure, Iran would be decimated eventually if they did go straight for Jerusalem but no one comes out unhurt from that conflict. The tough talk is all posturing for domestic and US consumption IMO. I reckon the status quo suits Israel just fine and a war with Iran opens up pandoras box.

unfortunately I think the yanks misjudged the killing of soleimani. I don’t think the Iranians will let it go, they’ll need to do something greater to save face, so it’ll escalate.
