I read this morning from the BOM that 7 years of the past decade have been the warmest in Australia since records were kept with 2019 being the warmest on record.

I am no Scientist but if North had won 7 Flags over the past 10 years you would be thinking that it was a pretty impressive trend over the past 123 years of VFL/AFL.

mate if you really wanna know what my beliefs re- fires stems from, living through black Saturday and seeing 1st hand with my own eyes the Bunyip and Chirchill fires on the same day pretty much made my mind up .

professionally iam employed to maintain an 18 story fireball 24/7, i know exactly the tonnage of fuel and the airflow requirements to do so, it takes 2 induction fans round 13Mw ea and a couple of induction fans of round 7Mw to maintain that airflow together with 6 or 7 Pulverised fuel mills of approximately 1Mw ea for the fuel flow.

on black saturday nature provided conditions such as these. the bunyip fire spotted a grassfire on the opposite side of our town approx 12 km behind the front. the churchill fire after multiple spot fires had a fire burning at manns beach within 2 hours around 70km away.

no amount of fire breaks such as the ones suggested by barnaby would have made any difference, no amount of stock grazing in the bunyip state park would have made any difference, no fleet of air support , or even double the amount of fireies on the ground would have stopped it, period.

I have nothing against you personally koshari, and I suspect you are a well meaning person, but I wish you to have this takeaway point from our little exchange, and that is to exhibit some introspection with regard to how you managed to arrive at a point of certainty, related to a field of science in which no highly trained scientist on the planet can encompass all the necessary factors, much less arrive at any certainty.

How did you arrive there? Could it be that you are very susceptible to media driven political manipulation in this instance?

Having some background in science, I would view that as the logical reason.

I am no climate scientist, but I know enough to understand some of the factors involved, and poor research or outright bullshit, when I see it.

You can basically exclude all politicians, bureaucrats and journalists when it comes to this subject. That is a good starting point to gaining a better understanding.

See, you're engaging in the same behaviour you criticise, ignoring reliability of a source of it sounds right to you.

I'm of the opinion that the 97 number that's been bandied about is a political and marketing tool used to encourage taking action on climate change.

I'm also of the opinion that even at a lower band of 80% that's still a pretty good consensus of experts.
