I'm not gonna reply to everything cos it will get boring. But what you've typed above is very similar to the defund the police movement.

There are significant differences, I think it is crazy to reduce funding while crime levels are so high. There are a lot of people who are dependant on the police for help. However, if you address the causes of poverty a lot of the social problems diminish and you wont need the same extent of police resources over time.

CNN did a comparison estimated 1,348 US people died in police custody over a 9 month period between June 2015 and March 2016, by comparison with 21 Australians and 13 from the UK. The fatalities per 100k arrests was 12 for USA, 5 for Australia, 2 for the UK.

It is a good read, sad, but good as it highlights systemic problems. Things you can expect to improve on. But, they need to hold their politicians accountable, something they never do. You do not need violence or riots or demonstrations, what they need is to politicise BLM into a registrar of voters and get a controlling block in all swing states, supply data like what CNN put together and approach both political parties and say here are the metrics, have a plan on how we are going to get from here to how we are going to get there and how long it is going to take with measurable results and the party who sells positive change the most has the critical votes to hold office. That is when you will see significant change.

Neither party has the moral ground, neither party has done squat about it in the past, people left right and centre want to see positive change, nobody wants their country to be a shambles and the laughing stock of the world. There has been a lot of anger and noise, and destruction, but it has probably helped the Republicans who are least likely to want to change from the status quo, conservatives don't like radical change.

The crack epidemic didn't specifically target white slums and neither did Bidens three strikes law.

Different drugs, same problems. Of course there was a very different and racist reaction to it, mandatory minimum sentences for having 500g of cocaine or 5g of crack was a 5 years in jail. 50g of crack got you 10 years, you needed 5,000g for the same sentence.

The whole war against drugs was politicians doing what their pharmaceutical lobby demanded of them, they didn't want any competition for drug addicts, it is why weed was made illegal for so long.

It is similar to the vaping issues vs cigarettes. It is why we can't get even our progressive government to ban addictive pokie machines, once you get on the money teat, it is hard to get off it. Money and power is more addictive than any drug.

Despite all the horrible people who have governed over us, and particularly over Americans, the people have the power to put better people in charge and to make laws which benefit the people instead of self-serving politicians and the corporations they have sold out to.
