You do know that he's been a lifelong vegan and defender of animal rights, and has advocated for causes dear to his heart for decades? Yes, he's also taken the piss out of everyone with his film "I'm Still Here", and the media he did leading up to it. But to suggest, as Snake has too in his above post, that he's being in any way disingenuous here is simply dead wrong.

Yes, Ricky Gervais is hilarious. His mocking of the Hollywood elite is spot on in a lot of cases. But not this one.

Anyways, I thought it was a beautiful speech, especially from a guy who has historically found interviews and public speaking quite challenging. I feel like much of what he said needs to be heard by more of us. I mean, really heard, in our hearts. Not just glossed over and fingers pointed in redirection from the meaning of his words. Not this time.The guy is genuine. At least give him that.

Did you see Gervais’ bit about it? I’m not suggesting Joaquin isn’t being genuine, it’s just that Gervais bit was so bloody good that I think about it every time I see a Hollywood elite give a speech like that.

Why do people care what an actor has to say about things, do people even care at all?
I wouldn't go to scomo to discuss the intricacies of bomb shelter construction, and I wouldn't ask a scientist to line up for North in round 1.
The only time I've seen people actually care about Oscars speeches is when gervais pokes fun at the whole thing.. with Streep, DiCaprio et al it seems like it's the news telling me to listen rather than my colleagues spreading the word

Who knows maybe the anxiety issues surfaced after he was telling everyone to clean their room? Anxiety/panic disorder is one of those things you just can’t understand unless you experience it first hand. It changes who you are.

I reckon once (or if) he comes back into the public eye he’ll be humble about it

I was asking folks at work about this - those who are professional statisticians and the like.

They say the number of folks on the ship is fine for a sample, but that yes, the demographics are going to be skewed.

But given you're not going to get a perfectly weighted sample big enough anywhere restricted like that, the ship is about the best you'll get.

I have never been interested in going on a cruise ship. Half the passengers getting seasick at some stage. Stuck on there, seeing the same people eating the same food, getting drunk, getting the coronavirus
