‘Our Gallipoli’.

We’ve already had one of those.

In 1974/75 over 100 million hectares of land was scorched across Australia which is a metric ****ton more than what has been lost this year.

The only difference? No social media back then.

Just read an account about a 16 year old boy who was so keen to join that he and his mate rode their bikes from Murchison (Vic) to Sydney to enlist, only to die within the first days of Gallipoli

That is Gallipoli, 1 of 8000 KIA

Szubanski is a fruit loop.

I read somewhere yesterday that those fires in the Desert were so remote that it was only discovered after satellite images picked them up

Wasn't that mostly grassland, primarily uninhabited and dumped out significantly less total smoke?

A tad different mate.

Mostly. Yeah.

It’s still 10x larger than what’s gone on so far so this catastrophe is not unprecedented.

There was also the 1851 Victorian Bushfire that wiped out 5 million hectares in Victoria alone.

Here's one from left field that you don't see the climate hysterics reporting:

Re the New Scientist, disappointingly it concludes...

“But is this a long-term change? Probably not. “It’s likely that these species will be gradually outcompeted once more,” says Francis. Already, some of the rare plants that proliferated in the first year after the fire have begun to retreat as ferns, trees and wet forest shrubs have started growing back.”

I heard many terrible stories post Black Saturday around Kilmore East and up to Yea over the past decade.

Already I am hearing through word of mouth economic ruin by those indirectly affected by the fires let alone the Farmers and Small Businesses in the North East directly impacted.

Additionally I don’t know if there is a link for you City folk but it would be good if perhaps you catch up with WIN All Australian News which this past week has been excellent at giving a Regional round up of the fires and the fallout for those directly and indirectly affected.

It’s great that these Celebrities are out raising $$, but it distracts and adds noise in the media cycle to those on the ground and what their stories are and what needs to happen.

As much as I would be first row to see Springsteen at a Bushfire Concert (as seen in today’s HUN) there was nothing in the article bar one sentence that tenuously linked the Australian Touring Company with Bruce. I would rather be reading about where all these evacuees have ended up than silly media speculation about celebs; and again don’t get me wrong, more power to those that have the capacity to raise money like this, but it must be the click bait stories that are generating articles on who has raised the most?

As per the inital report on Iraqi TV:

“We have intelligence from multiple sources, including our allies and our own intelligence. The evidence indicates that the plane was shot down by an Iranian surface-to-air missile,” he said.

Refusing to give up the black box. If that's not admitting blame nothing is.

The only question is whether or not they meant it. The have a bit of form doing shifty shit like that. Last time they were about to go to war against America they bombed a Spanish train station to scare off American allies

This could go sideways real quick
It’s a tough position for the Iran, admit they’re incompetent and face the wrath of the people?
I doubt they’d do it, as it presents how ill prepared for war they actually are.

but after reports they informed both the Finnish and Iraqi consulates of time and place of their rocket attack, to limit the loss of life, and deescalate tension, who knows.

Also they’re a highly paranoid regime, who was actually losing grip on power till, the latest round of ‘death to Emerica’ chants. Im not sure there’s a way out of this, while saving face.

Wait for it, everyone will blame Trump. That’s probably what they’re waiting for

Were there any Russians on the plane? I know it was mostly Canadian but there must been other nationalities?
I thought majority of the plane was Iranians, even the Canadians were dual nationality.
  • 82 Iranian citizens.
  • 63 Canadian citizens.
  • 11 Ukrainian citizens (two passengers and nine crew).
  • 10 Swedish citizens.
  • Four Afghan citizens.
  • Three British citizens.
  • Three German citizens.

Side note: I just copied from business insider, they’ve really gotta work on their style guide, having numbers and letters.:straining:
