i think anyone holding onto oil assets in the next 15 years might just be poison chalice. Lithium is where it’s at for industry.

although I can’t see an Abraham’s tank running on a few D-Cells.

Just ask Evo Morales.

None of the power grids can support everything going to battery. Don’t think we’ll see it in our lifetime.

Seriously, it could be done in a few years and lots cheaper than people think. If we took a wartime attitude to it, we could refit the entire Australian (well, the NEM) power grid and associated renewable generation if five or so years.

Didn’t know that. I heard someone recently complaining that the council won’t allow him to install the amount of car charges (can’t remember what he called them) in the apartment building he’s constructing because the grid can’t give him enough power.

It isn't so much the grid there as his little bit of it.

I once interviewed Ahmed Zakayev, fascinating bloke, commanded the Chechen defence in the second siege of Grozny. That was proper fighting, urban siege warfare street by street fighting.

Anyway, we were in the Scottish Parliament and talking about how small nations like Chechnya and Scotland deal with far bigger neighbours. He said, we have oil, that's why the Russians care, and if Scotland ever really looks like going independent, the English will show how much they care about the oil too.

No I haven't. Had a quick search, distopian future type stuff?

Yeah, brilliantly done though. One key feature of that near-future world is the breakdown of formal government, with privatised police/security in their place, and companies like Google routinely killing critics/rivals/kidnapping talent etc.

Is well worth the read - do them in order though unlike Chief who read the the wrong way around.

This Chinese coronovirus interesting, confirms my long held theory about why Australia having worse and worse flu seasons every year.

I'm happy to take this "curse" on for anyone that needs their burden lifted. :thumbsu:
and you have touched on precisely what the problem is, it creates greed which in turn creates innequity, oh arnt all those folks in west africa just making out like bandits that they have all those resources at their disposal!

I would love to go to Cote D'Ivoire or Liberia.

You DON'T acknowledge that it has been co-opted by left wing politics as a vessel to attack opposition in order to gain power?

Seriously?
Well that's worked ****en fantastically well for them this century hasn't it...

I wouldn't bet on it.

I dunno if they'll succeed but I think they'll have a crack.

I view Russia as an energy business first and a nation second these days. I'm no fan of csg but there are some sus people associated with that movement and I suspect they work for Russian interests either wittingly or unwittingly.

So any disruption they can cause to their competitors no matter how trivial is in their long term interests.

Persia and Arabia have disliked each other for Millenia. And China is quietly building influence across the world as it actively undermines western influence.

So there is potential for the destabilisation of Saudi Arabia right there.

It goes both ways tho. I have a mate who used to work on oil exploration rigs in the Middle East and until about a decade or a dozen years ago they went through the bottom half of the empty quarter.

Found heaps of oil near and in Yemen. Dunno what heaps is in numbers but enough to have my mate say there's enough oil for a long time.

Didn't finish that.

I was gonna add that I could see some intense competition between Israel/Saudi/US and Iran/Russia with China playing both sides against each other for a while.

Watching the way Turkey plays its hand will also be interesting.

Gotta love the devils chessboard... the only winners are the ones who can cash out the resources without the people knowing.
