The podcast goes for about 2.16 hours and honestly it took me about 4 hours to get though it because I had to keep rewinding to go over what they were talking about.

Bret seems like an actual genius and Eric seems frustrated with him being so humble.

He’s undermined the study of mice because the mice used are bread for research and therefore they’re corrupted by evolution. Genius.

Brett's wife, Heather Heying, is also a ferocious intellect and a scientist who I greatly admire.

Yeh we went to a Restaurant down near where the Cruise Ships come in; everything was lost in translation but we ended up getting a banquet. 5/6 of the plates were excellent but there was one seafood dish plate that tasted like a mix between a face washer and dirty dish water. It’s a pity that I remember it all these months later, but it was probably the second most revolting plate I have ever had in my 50 years...
I lived up in Sai Kung. Spoilt for choice for seafood restaurants. Great lifestyle, mountains on one side and sea on the other. 3 storey house with rooftop terrace mountain/water views for the same price as a 900 sq ft apartment on the island. Commute an hour to work for a French bank in central, but weekends taught scuba with my local Brit operated dive shop, mountain biking and trail running, HK outdoors are amazing that few people realise.
every weekend family would eat at the same waterfront place , lobster, prawns, spearing mantis shrimp, clams, hot n sour soup, rice and veggies plus 2 big. Bottles of Tsing Tao or Heineken, for the equivalent of AUD80.

Just to keep the randomness of the thread moving forward, I had my specialist visit today and got to see my scans and the damage that was done. I don't have any physical symptoms, so have been fairly blase about it.

Was taken aback when he told me it was a quite a big stoke and he put it down to stress. FFS that actually on top of being told it was a decent 'hit' stressed me further. So it's like I'm living in a loop. Is it a concern when I left the specialist patted me on the back and told me to look after myself?

Buddhist temple here I come.

Anyway here's a pic of the scan for those interested. I now need to see a Neuro-psychologist for rehab. The two white spots on the left is the damaged section.

Nice looking brain though, maybe a tad small :p But not the first time I've heard that ( eyes rolled)

I do know that in part I dodged a bullet and am lucky to be here, so I suppose onward and upward. Make every post a winner peeps. Take nothing for granted.

Sorry to learn of your recent health issues, Tao. I've been on a bit of a lengthy off-season hiatus from posting on here, but have still been lurking on the regular and have kept tabs on your story. Despite the scare, I'm glad to hear you're okay, dude.

Had a fairly stressful 2019 myself. Problems on the homefront, etc. Won't bother going into the details. Didn't lead to a stroke thankfully, but it did prompt me to take some time out from the minutia of life to help diffuse the stress. Treated myself to a lengthy sojourn, first stop Bali and then on to Canadia, and then back to Bali again on the way home. Was just the tonic. Hooked up with the most excellent and completely lovely Sopwiths North over in Vancouver, and had a thoroughly awesome time. Best person ever. Best holiday ever.

Some quick thoughts on Canada....

- The stereotype is true. They really do make politeness an artform.
- Dope is legal. Thereby earning it an automatic 100% on my personal travel destination rating system.
- From an aesthetic perspective, it's a beautiful place to look at (particularly when combined with the above).
- Man, do they love their beanies. Sorry, touks.
- Cheese is outrageously expensive, and I don't know why.

Also want to give a quick shout out to the good people at China Airlines. (Because of course I'm sure they'll be reading this.) Best airline I've ever flown with by a country mile. Ample leg room, service was fantastic, and the food was freaking awesome.

Anyways, not glad to be back.

Speaking of which, I have just caught up with the 45-odd pages of this new, unimproved Random Thoughts thread. Long story short, I lol'd.

This kid is special

Absolutely.

On a similar note....for those who may have missed it, yesterday saw the much anticipated debut of the massively-hyped Zion Williamson.

Seemed incredibly nervous and tentative to start with (to be expected), not to mention woefully out of condition (also to be expected after his long injury lay-off), but he slowly managed to work his way into the game as it progressed. By the end of the 3rd quarter he'd had a few nice assists and picked up a couple of regulation baskets in the paint, but nothing too special. Pelicans were taking the conservative approach and just giving him 4 minutes court time at the start of each quarter.

Pulled down a nice rebound to start the 4th and it seemed to give him just the confidence boost he needed. Preceded to go on a scoring rampage, racking up 17 points in around 5 minutes, including 4 (from 4) 3-pointers.

Believe the hype.

When the bloke improves his fitness and conditioning and gets a few games under his belt, he is going to make the NBA his plaything.

In other basketball news, starting 5's for the All Star game were released yesterday.

WEST
Lebron James (c)
James Harden
Luka Doncic
Anthony Davis
Kawhi Leonard

(Agree with the selections but how stiff is Damian Lillard? Bloke is in white-hot form atm - 61 points the other day against the Warriors and then backed it up with a 47-point game yesterday against the Mavs.)

EAST
Giannis Antetokounmpo (c)
Joel Embiid
Pascal Siakam
Kemba Walker
Trae Young

Can't wait for tomorrow's sports headlines:

"Williams unable to handle Wang", "Wang causes Serena choke" etc etc.

Ha. Now you've got me thinking that she may have thrown the match to avoid a "Serena beats Wang" headline.

Bernie Sanders Welcomed As Newest Member Of Alt-Right After Joe Rogan Endorsement

January 24th, 2020

U.S.—The massive alt-right movement welcomed their newest celebrity member this week as Alt-Right Chief of Gender Discrimination Joe Rogan said he would probably vote for Bernie Sanders for president.

Sanders is the latest celebrity to join the alt-right. All it takes to join the alt-right is to talk to somebody in the alt-right, and then you're officially in. Other recent recruits include Vince Vaughn, who talked to Alt-Right President Donald Trump, and Chris Pratt, who wore a Don't Tread on Me shirt and drank out of a non-reusable plastic bottle.

"We are extremely happy to have Bernie aboard," said the alt-right's founder, Bob Altright. "This just goes to show that if people listen to our racist ideas, they will eventually come around."

Other alt-right officials, such as Dave Rubin and Dave Chappelle, expressed similar enthusiasm over Bernie's newfound alt-right status.

"See? When we allow civil discourse and the free exchange of ideas, even communists can become Nazis like me," Rubin said on his show, which is mandatory viewing for dues-paying alt-right members. "Join me in welcoming Bernie to the Nazi-adjacent fold."

Alex Jones was unavailable for comment as he was driving a tank around shouting into a megaphone about gay frogs.

He’s the real deal. He’ll bully the comp. beast.

And I don’t think he’ll be given that lack of respect from 3 range again

America’s version of Betoota? Or just CNN

We miss you on here

You are the Ying. Or Yang. Or 6 or 9.

Rogan was also saying that they all asked to go on his show and he said no because he doesn’t like them. The only two hes had on are Sanders, who he had to invite on because Sanders had no idea who he was and Gabbard because they’ve been friends for years.

Hilarious because Rogan is a lefty. I wonder if they’re trolling him? He’s constantly saying how it annoys him that people think he’d be right wing or republican. Jimmy Dore was giving him shit about it this week.

He's a rational "lefty".

Coincidentally, I suppose I qualify for similar politics.

It speaks volumes about contemporary "left" politics when I find myself having to defend ScoMo from sheer idiocy.

I think I’m in the same category. Look at the comments under this to see how extreme some of the far left are.

After Bernie posted the video of Joe saying he’ll vote for him, some far left nutcase was carrying on. “ You take it down Bernie he said.....”.

I wonder if these people know he’s a comedian first and foremost

Look at the comments under this to see how extreme some of the far left are.

They have destroyed working class politics and THAT is a devastating tragedy.

Did the working class ever have a platform in politics? Genuine question, I was born in 81.

I believe it was better represented in the pre-Fabian era.

It has since been polluted beyond all practical use by condescending middle class careerists.

One of the more common sense political critiques you will find (~54:00 onwards)

I’m not sure what Maher’s problem is with pr0n. Is ejaculating on a face or anal sex really that bad?
