Consciousness as we understand it is part of an interaction process that is old and complex, that involves survival and the interplay between neurology and hormonal activity. It's not just information processing.

It's fundamentally biological and dependant upon generations of natural selection via interaction with an environment that contains threats and resources. It's no surprise AI people don't get it.
