inevitably everyone will get it at some time, just like the flu, mumps, chicken pox etc. I got chicken pox as an adult and i can tell you i wish i had of gotten it as a child. it absolutely floored me, caused me to miss my electricians A grade wiring exam. the people who contract this earlier ( younger healthier people to clarify) are prolly the most fortunate. the medical services are yet to be stretched so they could theoretically breeze through it with medical assistance there if/when they need it, on the other hand if some one were to contract this in the peak of the epidemic the competition for medical assistance would make that supermarket skirmish look like a high school debating class.

I'm 50. My lungs are a bit ****ed. Not just from smoking, also from fires. I really noticed it after this fire season, tho that was full on.

That's a minor worry.

Here’s a random thought. Ive wondered about where are all the bulls? Whenever I go to the bush there’s thousands of cows but barely any bulls. The ratio is way off. Shouldn’t it be about 50/50? I saw a video of what happens in factory chicken farms, how they sort the male chicks and female chicks (it’s pretty gross tbh).

Anyone know if they do something similar with cows and bulls?

I expect that they would. I don't know much about it myself but I know that artificial breeding has been big business for a long time.

Horace will know. I left the farm when I was six.

No, sex of animal isn't chosen, as far as I know. Very few bulls are kept, and really only the ones considered the most "valuable" for whatever reasons. Artificial insemination means there's piles of money to be made by only keeping a tiny proportion of the males alive through their lifetime and simply re-using their semen. Why waste money feeding millions of bulls when you can extract what you need from a much tinier amount. It's business.

The male offspring of dairly cattle are sold to the veal industry. The overwhelming majority of males wind up sold as meat.

And no, this wasn't a set-up or pre-rigged to further push the points Mr. Phoenix made in his speech that night. His visit to this slaughterhouse was already arranged, long before he made that speech. Just so happened he was going there the next day, which, in retrospect, explains why he brought up something as specific as dairy calves. I'm sure it was on his mind, given what he was about to do the next day.

Also, massive kudos to this slaughterhouse owner, for at least trying to carve out his own set of ethics within what he does, and for allowing the mother and calf to be rescued.
