No fu**en way!!!

He got away with that?

He gets away with this sort of thing on a regular basis. Indeed, his ability to dodge consequences for outrageous acts is his most admirable quality. Still despicable, but also impressive.

Re the bolded. I've seen it before more than once and been the one who it was done to as well on another separate occasion...

Ie. Someone with the responsibility for a decision and who made it goes to water then blames someone underneath them, who carried out their instructions, for the actual decision when they are called to account for it.

Its shitful. There is no quicker way to lose peoples loyalty imo.

In this particular case, most of the people standing behind him would have strongly disagreed with the decision when he made it. Then they had to keep their mouths shut when he pretended they contributed to reaching the decision.

Mate, he's a politician, so yeah, the bar is low in terms of what we should expect of him.

But he's a despicable human being, which is my main gripe. You can basically use any topic as an illustration. Golf, you say? Get a load of this:

TL;DR - he insisted on secret service protection whilst playing golf at his course, and his business charged them ~$90k in fees for being on the course.
They all do it:

Secret Service showed expenses for Obama’s post-presidency travels of $1,913,702.21 including: $936,742.56 in hotels; $159,393.40 in air/rail; $2,684.11 in car rentals; $819.70 in overtime; and $814,062.44 in miscellaneous expenses.

During fiscal year 2015, Obama flew 9 hours at an operating cost of $206,337 per hour for a total of $1,857,033

A pair of Obama family vacations the weekend of February 14, 2014, cost the Secret Service $272,192.91:
  • Michelle Obama’s annual trip to Aspen with her daughters – where she shut down the airport for an hour – cost $6,970 in air/rail, $5,614.99 in car rentals and $76,078.30 in hotels for a total of $88,663.29
  • President Obama’s annual golfing trip to Palm Springs included a meeting with Jordan’s King Abdullah II and cost $10,951 in air/rail, $10,166.79 in car rentals and $162,411.80 in hotels for a total of $183,529.62
Michelle Obama made two North Carolina trips in 2016 to campaign for Hillary Clinton. Air Force expenses total $40,902.40. In both trips, she took a C-40C military jet operating at $5,312 per hour.

TL;DR damn trump Obama and his outrageous one of a kind spending habits...

He does that shit all the time. He tries to funnel as much through his business as possible. He’s gaming it
Maybe he trusts his staff.

Maybe visitors feel safer going to a place run by trumps staff...

Should he go to different golf courses and decrease his safety just so peopl like you don't complain? Seems silly.

I'd feel safer at my house vs. If i visited your house.

Yes. I’m sure it has nothing to do with making money.

LOL, another comprehension fail.

Everyone knows politicians over-spend outrageously, there are these types of lists in Australia, too. So again, you posted unnecessary detail.

Here's the point you missed: Trump is directing public expenditure relating to his office to his own businesses.

Get it now?

Another common sense failure.

If political leaders are speaking to trump or his staff about where to play golf a suggestion would be go to a trump hotel or golf course. Why? Because they would know the policies and procedures (how to safely operate with security risk and valuable assets). You go to the places that are better equipped to handle the situation.

Go to trumps places that may have handled this 100+ times vs. Another that may have handled it a handful and not that often...

Get past your trump bias and you might see the logic there...

I'm sure that the US govt would have a list pf pre-approved venues to choose from, at which they have carte blanche to implement their own procedures etc. Furthermore any responsible public servant would want to avoid event the slightest hint of impropriety on something like this, however I am yet to understand why a bloke like Trump gets a free pass when anyone else would get slammed, and rightly so.

The mental gymnastics around this guy and people who support him through his 'issues' astounds me.

It would. Permanently outraged people are permanently outraged.

The exact same could be said for those that manage to twist every single thing into something against him.

The issue is when people do it and think they are 100% right and the others are 100% wrong.

Nice. Play the man and not the topic. Another highbrow move of those happy to see public servants fill their pockets with public money. Good for you.

I look forward to certain posters' vehement defence of Scott Morrison when he invites international guests to a conference at a venue owned and operated by his local Hillsong Church, fully funded by the Australian Government.

Only, I'm not outraged. I very rarely post on Trump.

I pointed out that he is a low human being (i.e. a fact) when there was yet another particularly salient example thereof. The Trump cheerleaders here won't even accept that fact, and make ridiculously narrow arguments (mental gymnastics :thumbsu:) to justify the actions of their man. But it's just trying to defend the indefensible.

Surely you don't think it's OK for someone in public office to have such immense conflicts of interest? Especially given it's clear he's not willing to change, he just wants to make sure he's not held to account by lying and deflecting. I'm surprised there are so many people who still fall for it.

Or he could play his golf at the military courses around DC and the eastern seaboard, like previous presidents.

West Palm Beach and Bedminster NJ are pretty east.

Trumps golf count is at 117. Obama played over 330 times in 8 years.

You'd think with all that golf Obama would have a higher handicap (13) vs. Trumps (2.8).

Not bad given the 15 year age gap.

Way to miss the point. Military courses are far better equipped to handle the security issues arising from a president playing there, than a private golf course. And that was the reason you cited for Trump playing at his own course, playing somewhere better equipped to handle the situation.

Add another to the list of recent comprehension fails accompanied by straw man arguments.

The initial attack from "I never talk about trump except when I do" LtK was cost.

As I pointed out in a previous link Obama has annual trips to Palm Springs golf course (not a military course) that cost ~$200 k each time.

So my rationale is if you are going to spend that much why not do it at a place that is better equipped to handle it. Sure they could use military bases (would be smart) but clearly the current and former president don't do that.

I don't recall people on big footy being up in arms during Obamas golf trips. I'll send LtK to look at the trump international books to see if everything is order. I'm sure his accountants have crossed all the ts and dotted the i's otherwise the hit squad wouldn't be all over it.

So no I didn't miss any point given I responded to the initial point and didn't come in last minute like so many in here like to do. Big footy's version of knock and run. Followed by a circle jerk with the usual subjects.

But Obama also makes the Secret Service stay at his Scottish golf resort!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The former president didn’t do this? Ummm, look at his golf, look at how much was played at Andrews Air Force Base and Fort Belvoir. Both military courses, reducing the cost to taxpayers, and both near DC, so he didn’t have to leave the White House.

You don’t have to defend everything Trump does, you could just concede that he probably plays his own courses to benefit himself.
