One of my school mates (and his wife who I’ve also been great mates with for 36 years or so) lost their son Josh in this Eastern Freeway tragedy. He was a young bloke with his whole life ahead of him. When he made it to Highway Patrol I joked that he’d better look after uncle Toes in the black ‘Stang if the need arises. Now he’s gone.

F***ing unreal! The family is shattered and say “we’ll never view life the same way again. Ours, as we knew it, ended tonight!”

Porsche driver caught doing a speed of 140km, was on drugs. Was known to police, criminal history, 41 year old man.

Truck driver blacked out.

Interestingly they're saying he blacked out after the incident, or at least that was my interpretation from Ashton's comments

Heidi Murphy saying Porsche driver took gruesome pics of dead cops and uploaded them to internet.

Cops sayiong this morning they expect him to hand himself in today.

Sounds to me like a veiled threat (thinly) of, if we have to come find you, you may well "produce a weapon" and our members will be forced to defend themselves in true VicPol style.

Has this been reported GR?

Okay, typically proof would be provided.
Ashton said in his press conference a few mins ago re the drug test. Said driver is well known with extensive history. 3AW took part of conference live. Will be in Hun online shortly I assume.

Chief Commissioner Graham Ashton has said the driver of a Porsche who fled the scene of a traffic accident in which four Victoria Police officers were killed had an extensive criminal history and has now made contact with police.

The officers had pulled the Porsche driver over for speeding on Melbourne's Eastern Freeway before a refrigerated truck ploughed into the emergency lane, killing two constables and two senior constables.

Chief Commissioner Ashton said the Porsche driver had an extensive criminal history and had tested positive for "some type of drug" after police stopped him.

He said the truck was travelling at 100 kilometres per hour and hit the police car so hard it spun across the lanes of the freeway, coming to a stop in the nature strip between the inbound and outbound lanes.

The truck driver remains in hospital under police guard this morning.

Yes, this morning. As FG said, the truckie driver blacked out after the incident. He has no criminal history and wasn't known to police.

What relevance does a "criminal history" or being "known to police" have to do with anything?

I am mindful of being tactful considering one of our most respected posters has been personally impacted by this tragedy, but I would ask people to ensure they are at the very least not engaging in the unfair demonisation of the suspect, or at worst, cheapening the accidental deaths of 4 people to push their own personal agendas.

1) The suspect had been apprehended by the police and a crime scene was established.
2) The police have complete legal control of a crime scene.
3) The suspect had zero legal control of a crime scene when a truck driver careered in to it.

This is a completely random event that could just have likely occurred if police had pulled over a mother & daughter doing some learner driver lessons during pandemic restrictions.

Be measured in your approach to this people.

A corrupt police officer. I wouldn't believe a word that came out of his mouth.

Just putting some extra facts there that Ashton was asked about. One thing the truck driver failed to do was reduce his speed to the 40km/hr speed limit when there is emergency services on the side.

You're a good guy GR, I know that, so be mindful of an emotionally charged environment that encourages the lynch mob mentality.

Ashton certainly knows that, and appears to be pouring petrol on it because it suits him professionally.
