I don’t understand the outrage with this? Why are people so upset about it and why should her opinion get her sacked? What does her opinion on Cook have to do with her job. Seems like a lot of people caring about nothing to me. Maybe people are just bored or something
This is social media. Constant outrage is the norm.

Wow, someone just went full dog. All heil anti association law.

Mate, in her position, she should be focusing on the response to the world's most serious health crisis in a century, not sitting around posting the hate messages associated with her personal politics.

It's the optics. She's tone deaf to the current situation. She is not fit for the job if she can't maintain the appropriate level of professional behaviour required of the job.

She's supposed to be a (senior) part of the team that is effectively monitoring and evaluating the risk on an ongoing basis and assuring the public that the decisions being taken are necessary in terms of best practice. Now our confidence in that team is undermined because she's proven that she can't even make good decisions in relation to her public profile.

Sometimes folks can be so blinded by automatically taking an opposing position that common sense gets steam rolled in the process.

C'mon Val, this is absolute rubbish. How the f*** can the actions of a person 250 years ago have an impact on the race of people appointed to positions for which they're qualified? You're validating the poor behaviour of someone whose position requires she's better than what her behaviour suggests.

You also need to be aware of who Clementine is before supporting anyone who quotes her. Here's some of her work (it's not a make-up, reverse image search will show you it has been posted thousands of times):

Yeah that Clementine chick seems nuts.

“How the f*** can the actions of a person 250 years ago have an impact on the race of people appointed to positions for which they're qualified?”
That cuts both ways, I mean here we are 250 years later and people are getting upset at someone criticising him.

Like it or not a lot of people don’t like the way our British ancestors behaved 250 years ago.

And Cook actually did introduce disease into Australia.

As long as she’s good at her job I don’t care what her opinion on someone from 250 years is.

You do realise that the world was an entirely different place 250 years ago? Like, so different that it might as well have been another planet.

Actions from the past have of course fed into how we are in the present. I mean, we're all here due to what transpired then. Literally. However, it is invalid to critically assess the actions of those at the time by today's standards. Hell, about 90% of what we know as humans was unknown 250 years ago. So yes, people understandably don't like what happened, because it definitely looks bad under a 21st century lens. But it doesn't drive decisions being made now.

Wait you know Clementine is being facetious..

Really? That’d be almost everyone though. There’s going to be a lot of sackings considering having a positive opinion of Cook is a political stance as well.

There nothing political about what she said. That people think there is shows just how broken public discussion is.

Wait you know Clementine is being facetious..

What, like 50 times?

No, she wasn't being facetious just as much as she wasn't being literal. It was a metaphor for her strident anti-male stance, as proved and emphasised by the books she subsequently wrote.

Really?

What if that doctor viewed your presence as an historical pestilence? Would you trust them with your health?

How about the integrity of your medical records?

View attachment 868627

Is this someone trustworthy enough for high office in the health department?

I agree. We should shoot whistle blowers. Laggers the lot of them.

If the world is so different, why should she be sacked for this tweet?

She’s not wrong.

It's not the worlds most serious health crisis in a century. It might be ours but even then it might not, proper effective vaccination is less than a century old.

What is hateful about what she said?

Or maybe she’s trolling specifically you..

Sorry, I didn't mean to post that. I clarified in my next post.

And it's a pretty ridiculous thing for you to say. I ignore Clementine as I think she has extreme and unsupportable views. You won't find one mention of her in my 15,000+ posts before today.

I think someone in a senior health position outing herself as validating Clementine's views is disturbing, particularly in the current climate.

What current climate??
Do you think Van Diemens plan going forward is only to treat females?
This whole thing is stupid..

There have been more deaths from Covid than any other event, including some wars, since the Spanish Flu pandemic of just over a century ago.

I didn't use hateful in my initial assessment (yesterday) - I just focused on the baffling lack of judgement for someone in her position. The hate part has come to light in her showing support for Clementine.

Umm, the current climate is that of a health crisis, in which senior heath officials are being relied upon (by millions) to be focused and competent.

I never had you pegged as someone who uses ridiculous deflection in your arguments, so I'm surprised you even wrote the second line. In the unlikely event that it's a genuine question, then of course my answer is no.

I agree that this whole thing is stupid, started by a very stupid tweet.

I think she was trying to be empathetic and draw similarities between Australians then and Australians now. Not to be political or divisive about it.

But things are so divided these days that as a society we are too broken to do that any more.

Hahaha, you probably should look into stats for completely preventable diseases like malaria. Which has had more deaths per year then covid so far.
And you’re actually bringing up Clementine as hate speech.. this just gets better and better.

You’re right, a stupid tweet, that triggers people that much.
We live in Aus, not America, it’s a time honoured tradition to bag out politicians each each.
People need to lighten up.

I assume there are also more deaths from heart disease, cancer, and other chronic diseases. It's a false equivalence to compare Covid to existing, long-term health problems. Are you deflecting again?

I get that Clementine has her supporters. I can't subscribe to her views or the manner in which she states them. Seems hateful to me, but each to their own.

But I'm not commenting from a political viewpoint. Not even a bit. I also have not called for her to be sacked, though I'm not at all confident in her doing a job that the community relies upon so heavily at present.

I don't understand how people aren't at least a little uncomfortable with this. But again, each to their own.

**** me. Every tabloid hack is over this. Latham has come out of his hole. Even Dutton. The same dog who stuffed up one boat that actually mattered and forgot to declare a million dollar home.

Another example that these whiny right wingers only care about free speech until someone (usually a minority) says something that gets in their feelings.

“In 2018, there were an estimated 405 000 deaths from malaria globally, compared with 416 000 estimated deaths in 2017, and 585 000 in 2010.”

No deflecting, at least be accurate in what you say.

Clementine has a right to an opinion, Van Diemen has a right to share the opinion. It’s not a hard concept. What does this have to do with her losing her job?
