Without trying to come off sounding like a hippy, I think what's happening over there is the absolute validation that fighting hate and violence with hate and violence, is self perpetuating destruction machine.

Few of us have friends and family over there in some of the cities dealing with all that shit.

Regardless of whoever is at fault, the scenes over there are far from 'awesome'.

Nah, he's nailed his colours to the mast on this one Val. Must have been hard for him though - I can almost hear his brain having a cognitive dissonance meltdown from here. Hates cops, but also hates uppity Black folks who complain about institutional racism. It's an ideological conundrum! And as usual, he's offering up his incredibly stunted and out of context take on things in his rush to "own" some "SJW"s.

No great shock though to see him throw in his lot with the jackbooted authority. Like I said, hates uppity Black folk. And hates white folks who support them even more. So the great cop hater becomes the great cop defender because in reality he's as politically biased as the next person. Quel surprise.

Not like any of this is new, and it's been boiling for decades, but when you combine it with the extra stressors incurred by the fallout from Covid, and a President who tweets about unleashing dogs on people, and deliberately resurrecting language that was used against Blacks in the Civil Rights movement, whilst turning his back to watch rocket launches and make speeches about how great America is....you have to wonder. I think Trump is the leader who's created the space for America to finally burn itself to the ground. I don't think any other President could have allowed for it so thoroughly.

I just pray they can rebuild it better. So many of their institutions are utterly corrupt when it comes to racial equality. What we're witnessing right now is the overflow of anger, grief, fear, and despair that has been building for over a hundred years. I don't know if true change will finally come from this, but I hope it can.

I think you’re right. The social contract looks broken. No government during a pandemic, no safety net, and they see gangs of police in paramilitary gear acting as a chud army.

It’s easy and probably misplaced to armchair from here, but the whole thing looks like an irrevocable shit show.
