Great message, shit comedy show... calling it a comedy is a bit insulting to the message.
rather than your standard hur hur poo and wee jokes, good comedy makes you face uncomfortable truths, can’t tell me there were points in it you giggled. Sure he’s channeling his inner Barry Crimmins and it’s a little more on the activist side but it shows chappelle has grown as a comedian/artist.
He was fortunate enough to have 30mins of everybody's attention and he didn’t waste it, as you walk away with the message imprinted in your brain.

I'd laugh at Dave if he read a phone book, he'd find a way to make it funny... funny story when Kevin Hart was young and doing a bit at a comedy club, Patrice O'Neale threw a phone book onto the stage and yelled out to him to read it because it had better material.

I'm not having a go at Dave for that show, he had some powerful things to say and I think somewhat that very good comedians are in some way modern philosophers or kindred spirits, they just use humour as a mechanism for conveying ideas to the masses.

There are a lot of really good modern philosophers but I do not think the general public has much access to them, most either work for elite schools and others just publish drab academic books.

As to this bit, it wasn't really a bit, it wasn't constructed to tell a joke, have punchlines or be funny. When someone has to ask a stone silent audience if they are bored 3/4 through the performance I think it is pretty obvious they liked the performance, it just wasn't intended to be funny. People just laughed mostly at him calling a few different women names.

What he talked about was something painful, he was sharing his experience and I think he has the scope to do more serious work and it would reach a lot more people than a lot of traditional philosophical work would. However, there is a certain vulnerability when it comes to speaking about serious topics and I think to some degree comedy can be a cop out, or the subterfuge of comedy. For instance, when Jon Stewart was called out about some things he used to say he would fall back to the defence of he is just a comedian and not a journalist or a news reporter but he would use that platform to present information like he was, he just didn't want the responsibility of being accountable to standards of journalism.

Dave is right that people do not want to hear celebrities preach to them about morality or virtue because celebrities are often bereft if it themselves and nobody wants to hear someone in an ivory tower preach to the peons. What Dave did was different, he talked about his feelings, about his anger and his pain and how that resonates with people across America but he wants to take a back seat because what is going on is about the people, not about celebrities.

What gets lost in what should be across the board calls for reform to the justice system is that for every Floyd, Garner, etc there are many non-black people who are killed in a depressing and appallingly similar disregard for life, it implies there is just an anti-black racism that accounts for all the deaths when the problem is a lot more common and widespread. There is definitely a racist systemic element in the USA, has been for the entire history, but the problems of police brutality and the justice system impacts the entire country. Even bean counters. Saw a video of an accountant in the USA who was shot full of holes for evading the police in his car, they kept rushing at his car with guns drawn, like the person inside the car wouldn't be full of terror at what was going to happen. There was no charge, no real investigation, the murdering cop was given two weeks paid vacation for killing some guy. As if the inconvenience or frustration of having to chase this guy down is any kind of justification for murdering him. It is just case after case of senseless deaths all over the country there. Why didn't anyone give a shit about a descendant of an Iranian immigrant? No protests, no riots. Same problems though.

I think Sam Harris in his recent podcast talks about the greater problem at large, but it tends to fall on deaf ears.

The National Front will be assembling in discrete locations all over Britain today, and new members will be signing up.

Congratulations SJW politics.

Yeah, the jews told that cop to kneel on that black mans throat.
Next stop, synagogues.
It’s wrong on so many levels what’s happening, I hope people can see in Australia this has quickly morphed into something else around the world, nothing to do with police brutality anymore.

It never had a destination in the first place, so of course it has become perverted.

All that idiot Trump has to do now, is point at this and ask people if that's what they really want?

Where’s all this pent up anger going to directed shortly?

So........now that icons that are historically associated with slavery are being torn down, can we expect all U.S. Democratic Party political statues to be torn down with them?

So much is questionable about the whole thing, it's like a parody show playing out in real time.
And the winners are fox, social media and the government

Whatever the case, they don’t stand a chance. They’ll probably get a couple hours notice to disperse then the military will roll in with live ammo.

It’s actually counter productive to the BLM movement

Nothing of jingoism to get everyone back on the same side
