1/2 hour into listening to Bret Snake_Baker he’s so easy to listen to, he makes complex things easy to understand. What’s his actual field? Honestly the dude knows too much stuff

He's an evolutionary biologist mate. Very bright man.

IMO, his wife is even more impressive. I have huge admiration for this scientist and her courage:

We just cannot allow ourselves to fall in to an echo chamber society based upon emotion as truth. It will end civilisation.

Cheers TOD. I have kind of wondered what his thought process was there. Unless he's really posting from some bunker in Kentucky (which wouldn't surprise me), it would appear there's a shade of hypocrisy there. Colour me surprised - oh, wait, no, I'm not allowed to say colour either, am I... oh dear.

Anyways, most importantly, thanks for pointing out the mis-call he keeps making on my identity. I am plural, and not possessive. !! But maybe you need an arts degree to know that, I'm not sure.

Is it just a coincidence that your Avatar name also sounds like “What’s up with North”? Given you arrived on the scene right in the middle of our “Scotts angst period”, I thought there might have been a link. However, now I’m assuming I was living in fairyland.

God knows how he fits all that knowledge in his brain. He’s an actual genius right? I don’t know much about her apart from what I’ve heard on the dark horse. I’ll check her out one day but I’m no Weinstein so I can’t process that much information at the same time.

Australian private and public sector organisations are being targeted in a sophisticated cyber-attack by a foreign entity.

“Protecting Australia’s economy, national security and sovereignty is my government’s top priority,” Prime Minister Scott Morrison told reporters at Parliament House on Friday. “Australian organisations are currently being targeted by a sophisticated state-based cyber actor.” “This activity is targeting organisations across a range of sectors across all levels of government, political organisations, education, health, essential service providers and operators of other critical infrastructure.”

He said while the attacks were not new, the frequency had been increasing in “frequency, scale, sophistication and its impact”. Morrison said the advice he had received indicated there had not been any large-scale personal data breaches.

^State based. I wonder who that can be...

Totally China. Their MO is so transparent. Push, poke, prod, act surprised and offended when called to task, publicly play the race card, slap on the economic pressure, all the while continuing on with their pushing, poking and prodding.

Now that they know they have the US in their pocket, because Trump will fellate Xi to get him to buy his farmers products, and thus their votes, Xi is more than happy to swing his big ol dick around and show everyone who's the boss in this neck of the woods.

The strategist in me thinks the Indian-China border stuff is related and they have been flexing their muscle. The North Koreans have been playing funny buggers near the border too. They smell blood.

All we need now is confirmation from crowd strike..

Pushing a State based narrative, they’ll have to put up some pretty big evidence to convince me to go to war. That ultimately where this will end up.

By the way, if you’re interested the Marble framework is used to attribute blame to other state based organisations.

We don't push war, we are a small, but economically large, middle power. We jump in and support our great and powerful friends, but we are often very reluctant to start a larger conflict. It is why the East Timor decision in 1999 was such a huge deal.

Our military sovereignty is effectively controlled by the US, so we cannot do anything without their say-so.

Thanks for the Marble framework info.

Why would they be doing that? So juvenille

Totally.

China is showing its strength, a kind of 'don't **** with us or else' showing in advance of something else. I wonder what it is....

Hong Kong related maybe.

The US is gripped by illness and civil strife.

The Chinese started pushing their maritime claims against Vietnam and the Phillipines in Feburary/March and they tested the waters with Hong Kong. The US is weak and they know it.

Divide and conquer a weakened lion:

I disagree with your assumption about pushing for war,
Ever since Howard, as a nation we have been quiet Hawkish and prepared to jump double feet into a lot of conflicts.

to me it looks like scomo has taken on the Tony Blair’s role, they’re pushing a narrative with very little information released to the public.

It’s starting to smell very swampy...

You misunderstand, if we are pushing for war, it is because the USA said we could. My comment was whether it was independently driven separate from the interests of the USA.

Yes and no with Morrison. His paltry commitment to the anti-ISIS campaign is in keeping with our niche contribution status with major international operations.

Even with the Deputy Sheriff stuff with Howard, he was always careful to send the absolute bare minimum of troops in order to use the vast majority of the ADF to secure our interests at home and within the region. Enough to show alliance solidarity and the perks of the alliance, but not enough for a substantial contribution. The US issued a number of complaints about the level of troops numbers during this period.

It is self-reliance within an alliance context and it has guided us since 1969 (Guam Doctrine). There is some room for independence within the alliance framework, but not much.

Divide and conquer a weakened lion:
They started pushing maritime claims on oil rich seas because they’re reliant on OS oil, they’re the biggest importer of oil in the world, and the US has choked supply, if Iran and Venezuela fall, China would be subservient.

Also China doesn’t have a real blue water navy and the US has just moved three carriers and their support crews to the pacific... Massive build up of force.

Anyhow this is for another thread.
