Often in US tv and movies you see peeps drinking straight from Spirit alcohol bottles and getting wasted.

I can’t ever remember doing this in my life.

Is this a common thing or Hollywood?
They're all looking for an early night.

The teens in our household when they have a get together. Play drinking games. Vomiting by 8pm.
Seems to be a common teen thing these days.

When we were teens it was considered an honour to drink into the early hours and not spew.

Up until the 2am bongs. Then it was up to personal tolerance levels

Anyone know what the rules are re playing hubs? Are players allowed out in the community in QLD? I spotted a couple of our boys yesterday in a suburbun shopping centre in Brisbane; neither played on Saturday. I ask this out of concern, as fines and suspension are being dished out and hope the lads are doing the right thing.

2am green outs ... When you suddenly notice the earth is not actually still, it's rotating and spinning round the sun at the same time.

you all however:

Quite a few of the north BF crew reside in Melbourne. It's the hipster barista capital of the world. You might find that these days that scene would play out in the opposite direction.

Or you suddenly see four sets of everything. You know it’s time to go home.

Brave, heroic wokesters.

They "care" more than you.

That’s nuts. What’s happening there? Did he crash that truck before hand?

Edit/ just had a bit of a look around. Looks like the bloke that got belted was trying to run people over and then crashed.

Funnily enough in these days of cancel culture it's interesting to reflect on the idea that political correctness gone mad is why the USA has never had an openly atheist (or gay, bi or polygamous) president. That it's why people here are still banging on about unions and this outbreak in Vic instead of what appears to be a failure of the DHHS (the responsibility of the same government.) It's why Lex Wotton had a criminal record a decade before Chris Hurley and why the Dead Kennedys were killed by Al Gore's wife.

What’s funny is the one question that needs to be answered for the covid thing will never get asked..
and that’s why did you give taxpayer money to private enterprise to run security?
was it cause you didn’t trust the police force or adf, was it going to be cheaper.. what was the reason for shelling out the dollars...

Times have changed and there is no appetite on either side of politics to resource essential services by the state, dunno about your age demographic but i grew up in a time when after leaving a tech school with handtool experience you could apply to one of the many institutions such as SEC, Gas and Fuel, Telecom, Victorian Railways etc to learn a trade. and if you were not someone with much mechanical aptitude there were the police, teaching, nursing and other streams school leavers could pursue (these latter choices fortunately are still available).

100 years ago we had railways running all over the state, now we dont even have the expertise to extend a railway 12 kms to the airport. Sad really.

This is the point why no one will ask the question.. the idea the private enterprise is better, more equiped, etc there needs to be serious questions ask why our system is like it is.. both labor and the libs exist to hand out, our money, to private enterprise and that’s wrong..

In my opinion its the current political system that actually maintains the current status quo, just look at the makeup of the people in both major parties, they are there to shore up their own party interests rather than that of the constituents. its no coincidence that these same people turn up on boards or with cushy consulting roles to the same firms that they were protecting the interests off whilst in parliament.

royal commissions are another pet hate of mine, the government(s) cant/wont make the decisions they are voted in to make so they decree we need a royal commission to shore up all their barrister mates with ongoing work to make these outcomes. 30 years agao royal commissions were virtually unheard of, now we have one to look into everything from bushfires to nursing home responsibilities, and in these cases such as the nursing homes the outcomes were so poor that 10 years later the nursing homes are no better managed than they would have been with out commission in the first place.

but sheesh there have been plenty of renovations down portsea way funded by such activities.

Totally with you on that.

I also just read something on the intercept which prompted me to make that initial post but I wanted to hear other people's opinions first.

But even the endless concrete examples of conservative PC are not the end of the problem. Right-wing political correctness so hobbles our political imagination that we don’t even dream of having debates on the deepest, most important problems of our lives. Imagine politicians or New York Times op-ed columnists or corporate TV hosts asking simple questions like:

  • If we followed the law, would the most powerful people in America, including Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Barack Obama, Donald Trump, and most Wall Street CEOs be in jail?
  • Is advertising all lies that are warping our humanity? If so, should we get rid of it?
  • Is there any way to heal the wounds of 500 years of European colonialism?
  • Can we wind down the American empire without destroying the whole world in the process?
  • Even if we slow down the effects of the climate crisis, will capitalism still destroy the biosphere on which all human civilization depends?
There aren’t any easy answers here, but let’s at least be honest about the problem. If we’re going to talk about political correctness, let’s start with the truth about the kind of PC that matters most: the political correctness that is literally killing us.
