Mercy is something our entire culture could do with valuing more. Cancel culture us a symptom if what it comes out of, like everything else.

In heaven His throne is made of gold
And the Ark of his Testament is stowed
A throne from which I'm told
All history does unfold.

Down here it's made of wood and wire...

Are you serious? It was nearly 14 months ago we started fighting bushfires. After the shortest of lay offs. We weren't active during April, May and June.
I have wondered if it was just me wandering around with a rain cloud over my head. Maybe I am just becoming less tolerant of the cold in my old age :)

We still might need that rain cloud up round here soon anyway. I'll let you know.

The cops shot another unarmed black dude yesterday. Shot him in the back several times as he went to get into his car.

If they thought the riots were settling down they’re about to kick off again

I very much doubt this is the full encounter.

Body-cam footage has been released that shows Masai Ujiri was not the aggressor in last year's post-match incident after the Raptors won the NBA finals. A sheriff's deputy approached him as he tried to enter the court and shoved him twice while Ujiri was trying to show him identification. There was also no blow to the head, despite the cop claiming to have been concussed.

Excellent statement from Masai. He's conducted himself with absolute grace through this, and is one of the most articulate voices out there. Good to see the truth is coming out. Just sad that it had to dampen the night. Go Raptors.

"Thank you to everybody who has expressed disappointment and concern regarding the video that was recently released. My family and I are deeply grateful for your care and consideration.

The video sadly demonstrates how horribly I was treated by a law enforcement officer last year in the midst of my team, the Toronto Raptors, winning its first world championship. It was an exhilarating moment of achievement for our organization, for our players, for our city, for our country, and for me personally, given my long-tenured professional journey in the NBA. Yet, unfortunately, I was reminded in that moment that despite all of my hard work and success, there are some people, including those who are supposed to protect us, who will always and only see me as something that is unworthy of respectful engagement. And, there’s only one indisputable reason why that is the case - because I am Black.

What saddens me most about this ordeal is that the only reason why I am getting the justice I deserve in this moment is because of my success. Because I’m the President of a NBA team, I had access to resources that ensured I could demand and fight for my justice. So many of my brothers and sisters haven’t had, don’t have, and won’t have the same access to resources that assured my justice. And that’s why Black Lives Matter.

And that’s why it’s important for all of us to keep demanding justice. Justice for George. Justice for Breonna. Justice for Elijah. Justice for far too many Black lives that mattered. And justice for Black people around the world, who need our voice and our compassion to save their lives.

Those are the ties that bind us.

With love and determination,

Masai Ujiri

Jacob Blake was shot 7 times in the back at point blank range, in front of his 3 children, aged 5, 8, and 13 years old. He's in hospital, still alive, but paralysed from the waist down, and has had most of his colon and a part of his small intestine removed.

The officers involved have not been fired or charged. The police union is following the usual obfuscation scenarios that all too commonly come after these horrific take downs - refusing to release information whilst attempting to assassinate the character of the victim and create a narrative to justify what they did.

Following so closely on the heels of what Masai Ujiri said not even a week ago. Nick Nurse is giving his players fee range to choose not to focus all their energy on basketball right now. Fred VanVleet has mentioned whether or not it might be time to start boycotting games:

“We all had to watch Jacob Blake get shot so that kind of changes the tone of things and puts things in perspective."

“That’s all that’s been on my mind. Coming down here and making a choice to play was supposed to not be in vain. But it’s starting to feel like everything we’re doing is just going through the motions and nothing’s really changing and here we are again with another unfortunate incident.”

Spose the only fact we know now is a cop shot someone in the back multiple times.
I'm sure there were mitigating circumstances.

Why else would you shoot someone in the back in front of their kids?

Unfortunate scenario of a society where the probability of a member of the public is in possession of a firearm. I reckon we have the balance from a law perspective a little on the conservative side but happy enough it's not open slather. Having said that i dont beleive hardly any of the public firearm offences on the US or here are involving legally registered firearm. Domestic matters sadly is another matter.
