More people in the ocean?

Well most of them are around the northern coast of NSW, southern QLD. It seem that at some point in the last 10 years or so the east coast great white population (there are 2 genetically different populations in Oz) has established a breeding ground in that area. The attacks are thought to be juveniles that stay in the area closer to shore than the big ones.

Coincidentally (and only sort of related) the pro surfer who lost her arm in a shark attack and was back surfing in like 30 days or something crazy like that was on the radio yesterday morning. I could not get my head around how someone could be capable of doing that. Amazing woman. Talk about mental strength.

Maybe she is a logical thinker? Statistically she would be very unlikely to get attacked again.

The mind works in interesting ways regarding risk and probability. We have a couple of hard core lotto players where I work, they have been playing for years and bet pretty large systems, they have had a couple of tiny collects, usually just enough to take a contribution holiday for the next draw. after discussing the odds and realising it is more probable to be struck by lightning i suggested they go out and buy faraday suits. they of course mocked me (after finding out what faraday suites were). i found it interesting they were confident of winning however were happy to discount an event that was 10 times more likely to occur to them.

I was lucky enough to go cage diving with great whites off port lincoln a few years ago. This is me filming. They're actually beautiful animals when they're not in hunting mode

And they are not in hunting mode when ?

i did the same thing at shark alley in south africa, there were no tuna there like your footage but plenty of sharks still,

Often. More and more people are diving with great whites with no cages. Certainly it’s a risk but they aren’t mindless killers. They don’t even like to eat humans.

They often get confused and take an exploratory bite, realise the person isn’t food and let go. The problem is their test bite is enough to kill someone from blood loss.

Bull sharks are different. They are assholes and very aggressive.

Reminded me of my old farm, we got some young bulls that had their nurries ringed for us. Anyway, it only worked on 1 of them, and the other 2 had 1 nut each, and they bullified almost by the hour. Named after 3 great sports faves of mine, Waddle, Zinzan and Tic Toc, Waddle was by far the maddest. He had me scampering over this fence one morning into the sheep pens. Bugger me if when jumping the fence I half tripped on the launching step and landed smack bang with a leg either side of this fence. I layed on the ground cursing this soon to be ground beef, and I reckon he was laughing right back at me. He was as mad as a cut snake.

Bit of a proud moment today. Let me preface this by stating my eldest (9 y/o) is literary the kindest and caring kid. She’s a genuine softy.

BUT.

The girls have made friends with some kids up the street who are for lack of better words feral. One of the ferals always cracks the shits about something and throws a tantrum and goes home.

Well the kid made the mistake of mistaking kindness for weakness and came at my daughter with a stick today. Long story short my daughter put some things she’s learned into action and the stick wielded went home crying...my daughter was also upset because she felt bad, but we’ve had a little talk and she knows she did nothing wrong.

Hopefully the other kid learned a lesson too.

I strongly encourage everyone to teach your kids self defence, or get them into a class that will 🙏🏼

Guy who taught me how to mark cattle went to great lengths to tell me the importance of getting both.

Also good to teach them that not everyone plays by the rules.

I was hoping that this story was going to end with them winning lotto and getting struck by lightning on their way to collect the proceeds.
