Which is ironic since some of its foundational academic theories came from France in the first place.
That’s what I chuckled too when I was reading the article, typical French intelligentsia looking down on those stupid Americans..

LOL, yes, it reeks of "You actually BELIEVED those idiots!?" (re-Derrida, Focault, Baudrillard, etc.)

Yes, but that's like saying it is ironic that the Germans in the 1980s were very anti-nuke, despite Germans having been foundational in developing the theories that led to atomic weapons.

More accurately, oh God what are you doing with these tools you idiots?

Just the stunning irony of someone posting an internet forum bagging Foucault or Baudrillard.

Like ... ummmmm.

Some books are meant to be read with a nice glass of red, some with residues of lsd after massive weekend...
nice way to explain the complexities of the world and yet the yanks picked it up and ran with it as reality.

We live in a "post truth" world where things can be simulated to appear as real. Where people have such differing "realities" that only a few eeks ago people stormed the US Capitol based on a lie.

Foucault and Baudrillard have been utterly vindicated.

They provided the roadmap for understanding the world we live in now. They didn't create it though.

Neoliberal economics did that.

Yea. Post modernist works can be a bit of both. Interesting stuff in many ways, but can be very complex and out there at the same time.

Post truth world is also a nice way of saying governmentman using propaganda and creating differing version of events, then actually events, to create emotion.
Strangely humans act in emotion.

Wait until people realise the matrix was about wachowski sisters coming out as trans..

The first matrix movie was ahead of its time.

That's always always always happened though.

Post truth is about people creating their own realities, made possible by advanced tech, such as the stuff we're using.

Where the simulation becomes real.

As I said, people stormed the very real world Capitol based on a simulated reality they'd willingly created for themselves.

And yes agreed, The Matrix is one of those movies that is absolutely fundamentally misunderstood.

Like Fight Club lol.

Wasn’t that the basis of ‘discipline and punishment’ ?
we’ve always been able to alter someone’s reality.
Only difference is now it can be done with something you carry in your pocket.

BTW DesertRoo, I have watched Raised by Wolves. Is a very good sci-fi show. However, I have been utterly spoilt by The Expanse on Amazon Prime, which equals/surpasses the recent BSG.

As for the Matrix. I think one its real interesting elements is that it can be interpreted to be a few different things.
