Considering the size of the 'invading' force, then that line of thought have some serious credence. I believe the victory and Martel's other victories (Frisians/Saxons) more so helped establish the Frankish empire as the dominant force in Western Europe, and helped lay the foundations for Charlemenge and the establishment of the Holy Roman Empire system that dominated Europe for centuries.There is a train of thought that the battle is over-played. Both in how serious the 'invasion' was, how the force was also at the end of a long logistcs line, and not particularity well manned.
