'woke' just gets shifted around and always morphs to mean the person you want it to mean.

I could say Jeff Goldblum, you'd then go and say 'but the woke then cancelled him'. So he becomes 'unwoke' at that point, right? Despite still agreeing with the people you've deemed 'woke' on almost everything else?

When you use that term, you're using it in a way that by definition has to support your point.

If by woke, you mean left-leaning, cultural liberals, there are dozens upon dozens of these types who have criticised Islam. There was a little magazine in France famed for its history of aggressive cultural liberalism that made the news for doing so.

What you'll more commonly see across all sides of the political spectrum are people who criticise elements within, or particular iterations within religions. Most people outside of a few tend to have that nuance, and don't hate particular religions as a whole, or condemn all followers of a religion.

I don't get why it's a **** measuring contest though. I don't see any particular pride or feather to put in your cap about going out of your way to insult any genuine religion.

It’s not the racial issues that are being downplayed by the term “woke”, it’s the “pretentiousness” of the people pretending to care about legitimate social issues that is being ridiculed with the term “woke”.

It’s ****ed isn’t it. All those religions should be burned to the ground.

It’s like people are ok with other people being religious as long as they don’t talk about it. It’s an uncomfortable truth that you can’t be pious in your religion of choice and also hold the standards of today.

The meaning has evolved. I listen to a lot of African American stuff and believe me they ain’t woke by whatever the **** the standard of woke is now.

In fact they’re probably annoyed that it’s something else that’s been taken and changed by white people.

There was and remains an interesting discussion around feminism (who I'm sure is counted in the wokism spectrum) and Islam too. Might be wrong here, but I seem to remember that Western feminists actually got criticised by some Muslim women for imposing Western feminism standards on women in Muslim countries, who argued that what they in fact needed was allies and change needed to come from within. I think this was like mid-2000s when the anti-Muslim rhetoric was at its peak.

Bit more nuanced than that I think and I want to make clear that I'm no expert and I might be remembering incorrectly. But the clothing thing is a good example. I seem to remember some Muslim women pushing back on that because dress is or can be a form of religious observance, which wasn't recognised by Western feminists. That can lead into a huge discussion about cultural relativism too, which I am not qualified to contribute to in any meaningful way.

Attacking the Catholic Church for its abhorrent contemporary behaviour is not attacking Christianity, it is attacking a group of people that have acted, and continue to believe they are above the law.

At some point these orga have to be held to account for their behaviour, which is hard, because you are accused of attacking <insert religion> by followers of said religion.

I don't disagree, and I think my follow up point about it being more common to criticise certain organisations, iterations or movements within religions touches on that.
