The judge has already noted that Maxine’s ‘involvement’ would be a potential grounds of appeal for the defence. Also mentioned that the political influence hasn’t helped. Impartiality is all but gone, despite how guilty he probably is. Consequently, it can be interpreted as true blind justice. After all the riots, there’s a lot of people who lost the lot, and support the coppers, so depending on the jurors this could be like a reverse Rodney King situation.. giving the big fu to the rioters.
it’s why Maxine Waters and the like are getting involved. Adding a voice early.
flicking matches at a powder keg is the only way to describe it.

You've get set a higher standard that can be equally applied to all. Picking and choosing is when the integrity of the justice system gets further eroded. The system has enough inconsistency and problems (drug war and sentencing) without politics getting involved.100%
You’ve got people standing there saying you’re killing him and he kept his knee on for 5 minutes. there’s no justification for it.
Scary when justice might take a backseat to politics.

I've seen a few pundits use the term 'soulless' to describe this money grab scheme and pretty much sums how I feel about it.The creation of a European 'Super League' has set a dangerous precedent for Sporting codes all around the world. The emphasis of profit at the expense of the fans and the spirit of competition, along with the disregard for the cultural/historical significance of Clubs is beyond disgusting. My Club Tottenham Hotspur are one of the twelve founding clubs, and I am beyond annoyed. I seriously hope our game is never infested by the same parasites who have ruined European Football.
Geez you’ve opened a geopolitical can of worms there, Taiwanese would say they’re defiantly not Chinese and they would also steer clear of Huawei..
Stabbing their ancestors in the back so to speak.
The jury is specifically instructed not to watch any news media and not to use social media. They would have to prove that has not happened and that it influenced the verdict.
I think you’ve taken it out of context and read the post literally...Most of the current Taiwanese population are most definitely Chinese and have spent most of the past 70 years claiming to be the true leaders of China. The indigenous represent less than 3% of teh population.

Judge blasts U.S. Rep Maxine Waters for 'abhorrent' comments about Chauvin trial

The judge overseeing the trial of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin on Monday harshly criticized U.S. Representative Maxine Waters' remarks on the case, saying she might have given the defense grounds for appeal in the event of a conviction.
Hennepin County District Judge Peter Cahill said during the closing moments of Chauvin's trial that it was abhorrent of Waters, a Democrat from California, to tell protesters it would be unacceptable for the former officer to be acquitted of murdering George Floyd.
"I wish elected officials would stop talking about this case, especially in a manner that's disrespectful to the rule of law and to the judicial branch and our function," Cahill said after dismissing jurors from the courtroom.
Elected officials commenting on the case should show respect for the judicial branch, Cahill said. "Their failure to do so is abhorrent."
A spokesman for Waters did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Chauvin, who is white, pushed his knee into the neck of Floyd, a 46-year-old handcuffed Black man, in May 2020 for more than nine minutes, sparking protests around the world over police brutality.
Cahill's remarks came after Chauvin's defense lawyer requested a mistrial, arguing that Waters' comments had tainted the proceeding.
Cahill denied the request, but said the defense's concerns were legitimate.
"I'll give you that Congresswoman Waters may have given you something on appeal that may result on this whole trial being overturned," Cahill said.
Waters was in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, over the weekend to show support for ongoing protests over the death of Daunte Wright, who was shot and killed on April 11 by a Brooklyn Center police officer during a traffic stop.
Waters told the protesters to "stay on the street" and "to get more confrontational" if Chauvin was found not guilty.
Her remarks came ahead of closing arguments in Chauvin's trial. Jurors began deliberating on Monday.
That’s why he threw out the mistrial motion I suspect. Getting more ‘confrontational’ has all sorts of implications/meanings that can be taken to the extreme by an individual or two. A potentially dark road to head down.Yep. There is still a burden of proof.
What Waters said is not unreasonable but she should have just shut the f*#k up and let the courts do their job.
Could be two vaginas...Just concreted a path in Northcote, had to leave before it cured. Really looking forward to seeing if it’ll have the classic **** & balls or if Northcote has reached full gentrification and it’ll be a political message.
Could be two vaginas...
That would be peak Northcote.
Possibly. I should know better than to interpret anything you post literally.I think you’ve taken it out of context and read the post literally...

I was surprised when those cops got off over King. After all the riots, there’s a lot of people who lost the lot, and support the coppers, so depending on the jurors this could be like a reverse Rodney King situation.. giving the big fu to the rioters.

Could go either way. Things could stay the same or get worse if he gets off. people are protesting and rioting cos there has been years of people getting off. IIRC after the King verdict there were riots in many cities in the US, not just in LA. It was alot worse than reported.Yeah it’s gross. The prick was kneeling on him rocking back and forth and he picks rocks out of the tire of the car. I believe he should get the maximum sentence.
I was just looking at it more from the angle of what the fallout will be. The riots after the trial of the Rodney King cops were bad but this has the potential to be way worse.
I was surprised when those cops got off over King.
I agree with her but she should have kept her mouth shut. Its exactly the sort of thing we have the seperation of powers to prevent.Yep. There is still a burden of proof.

I’m never surprised at America anymore..I was surprised when those cops got off over King.
I was expecting it by then.I was staggered when George Zimmerman got off for killing Trayvon Martin. Absolutely clear-cut case of murder/manslaughter. Not surprised at all that black people in America think the justice system is racist.
Has he called his brother out yet about the nursing home deaths?I’m never surprised at America anymore..
if he gets off, I think it’ll be interesting to hear comments from Cuomo and co at CNN.
I was expecting it by then.
But I remember when John T Williams was killed in 2010. The cop responsible, Ian Birk, wasn't charged on condition he resign from the PD. I saw some leaked copies of internal police newsletters afterward and it was actually worse than the shooting. The last 10 years and ongoing shootings fit with them. Cops were talking about taking back the streets and showing the (insert various racist terms) who was boss, how having a monkey for president was making people uppity and similar stuff.
This is the dashcam footage:
The cop steps out from the camera los before the shooting but you'll hear the audio. Warning tho - its pretty full on but not graphic. Definitely pretty chilling too - to me it seems clear Birk has left the police car having already decided to shoot Williams.
