The economist was talking about a standardised $3k deduction which would give full-time workers on average wages an automatic refund of around $2k.
Seems fairly pointless to me. Just increase the tax free threshold by 3k if they want to give a tax cut.

It's also pretty insulting they think that most ppl only use accountants because they need help with work related expenses. It's literally less than 10% of a total tax return.

Fair points, although an increase of the tax-free threshold most benefits those in the highest marginal rate, who are not those being targeted by a work-related deductions increase.

I suspect you're right about the use of tax agents, so that part of the proposal seems wrongly focused.

I'd laugh if he does better than McGregor

He might. He’s a lot bigger. It’s a ridiculous matchup. Imo it’ll be a very boring fight because of the size mismatch. Mayweather will probably just slip him for the majority of the fight and beat him on points, unless Paul tires then Mayweather will stop him.

My god, Mayweather is going to fight Logan Paul. Joke

The most rigged fight in the history of rigged fights.

Anyone who buys the PPV is a fool.

An increase in the tax-free threshold has exactly the same benefit to everybody earning above the new level as those dollars are taxed the same for everyone.

Sorry, I got that wrong and you're correct here. It's actually the other way around - a $3,000 deduction across the board most favours those in the higher marginal tax brackets. So, increasing the tax-free threshold is more equitable if the sole objective is to reduce personal income tax, but this isn't the main focus of the exercise.

Agreed.

I can’t get my head around these NFT’s. Where’s the value?
Equivalent of buying a painting signed by the artist with like, 1/10 written in the corner.
Sure, there's copies but yours is considered authentic and linked to a blockchain transaction.

Tbh I don't think the true value of NFTs is in digital assets exclusively.. These guys (https://vidt-datalink.com/) are linking NFTs with real world items as a sort of globally confirmed certificate of ownership. It's an emerging market, I don't think the best use cases have been uncovered yet.

Buying memes surely isn't the extent of its value lol

Yep, defending people carving swastikas is why 153 prominent, mostly left-wing, intellectuals signed the Harper's Letter condemning CC...

Yeah man, Bari Weiss, noted left wing intellectual. And I know you said mostly.

That letter was about the institutional intellectual elite wanting to protect the terms of engagement as THEY define them.

My old man was raised as a Hindu and mum as a catholic. They used to have long arguments about free will v determinism when I was a kid. Got really deep about it.

I think its a matter of perspective.
I imagine more than a few hypotheticals for those arguments. Very deep stuff.

"...so few of us rage indignantly at wasps for stinging us."

Wasps choose to sting in response to threats. If you hadn't scared them they wouldn't sting you. They do know what they are doing.
