Not sure if any of you have caught this news story over the last 24 hours or so.

The story in question is about a kid named Ben. He is one of my son's best and closest friends - they talk every day, hang out together every weekend, and are always crashing at each other's place and what not. He's a good kid and I would happily vouch for him in a heartbeat.

The following is an abbreviated first-hand account from someone who was there with Ben when it happened, but apologies if it later comes out that there are any inaccuracies.

A couple of nights ago, Ben was in Healesville visiting a mate who moved there a couple of years ago. The two of them and a few others (not sure of the exact size of their party) headed down the pub for some beers. There was a group of older locals there, and at some point during the night these older locals started hitting on and generally hassling the crap out of a group of girls that were at the pub. Seeing the girls' obvious distress and acting through chivalrous intent, Ben and his group tried to get between the girls and the locals that were harassing them, which caused some friction. Upon closing, the friction traveled into the carpark. Shortly thereafter, out of nowhere, Ben was king hit with a coward punch to the temple. He was knocked unconscious, and then hit his head on the ground upon falling. He was emergency air-lifted to Royal Melbourne Hospital where he underwent brain surgery and now lies in an induced coma.

One of those things in life that leaves you numb and speechless. Very difficult to make sense of it all. A bright young kid's life isn't meant to turn out like that. Just unspeakable sadness for Ben's family and friends, of which I am one, also.

****, i just read this.

All the best to him, and pass my best wishes on to your lad.

Calling photoshop on this one.
We've got a heap that big living in the house and another five or six smaller ones the size of your hand...

I just showed the missus and we were wondering if it was as big as the one in the kitchen this morning. I reckon they are similar sized and she reckons the one in the thread is smaller. They are about the same size tho, thats about as big as those ones get. Can you see the light reflecting off its eye in the middle of the front of its head? They have another one in the middle of the head and if you can get the angle right with a flash it glows a gold colour. Looks trippy as.

Torch your house and salt the land.

This is what Whitney Webb was talking about on Tim Dillon’s pod. She reckons these smart cities will have zero privacy. Still trying to figure out if she’s an over the top nut or concerned journalist.

There's no privacy now.

There's no privacy now.

That’s basically what she was saying. I think the point she was making with these smart cities is that it’s the merging of technology and government.

Tim Dillon is a comedian who’s not to be taken seriously at all so it was surprising that he had her on. He loves conspiracy stuff though so I’m still a bit sceptical about Webb, but she seems genuine and well researched.

The picture she painted was one where as AI and other technology takes over most jobs, a lot of the work force will be redundant. Individuals will own nothing, everything will be a service. Clothes, houses, cars...everything. Except of course the people at the top of the tree, the top 1%.

It was interesting tbh.

The aim is that everything you do will be tracked. It is already if you constantly carry a phone but this will just be more effective. it will be a dgital panopticon.

Webb is ok.

Like Greenwald. If she gets dodgy info its because agencies use people like her (and Greenwald) for disinfo or other purposes. Because they have built trust with the public who are sceptical of MSM already. That is what happened with the intercept.

I guess theoretically that lack of privcy is okay if there are no stupid laws. Ie drug laws, anti whistle blowing etc. in an ideal libertarian society with a culture of protecting society from markets, where everyone pays everyone else due respect, most of the time you only need minimal personal property laws and laws for personal physical protection. It will never happen obviously cos of the conflict between one persons view of protecting socety from the market and another person's view. Some people will view asbestos or heroin as reasonable products, buyer beware. Others won't (what happens to all the asbestos dust for example.) Provided people like Dani Laidley are allowed to live their lives in peace (minus the stalking obviously).

I think the other part of the picture she painted is a nightmare. Aside from the corporate socialist implications not owning your own stuff is anti human.

Even indigenous tribes around the world have ownership rules, especially IP ownership rules (that are often broken by big pharma etc, who dont recognise them). This is exactly what I am talking about when I start banging on about neo feudalism. Here, IMo anyway, the only way something like that would work is if the Crown in Australia owned everything and every adult citizen was an equal shareholder. That would be a form of corporate Communism, its also a form a fascist economics I don't mind if its not tied to authoritarianism.

Otherwise you are constantly paying the mega rich for the right to live. I'd become a pirate in that sort of world. Time to learn to hack drones and robot dogs...

Have you read the fictional letter that was put out by one of the silicone valley groups? It was written from the point of view of someone living in one of these smart cities in 2030
