I’m probably giving him way to way leeway for being a functional adult but for the life of me I can’t think of a valid reason to pee I’m a coffee cup..
Reeeeeeealy having to go, but being stuck at your desk in the middle of an important zoom meeting and thinking you can get away with it off camera. That's the only "reasonable" explanation I can think of, and even then it's not too flash hot.

Yep, perfectly reasonable to strip off while doing it..
All I’ve got is Bear Grills survival class or weird fetish?

Funniest part about this story is the non committal answer is worse than if he came out and said he was just a freak..

Canadian Lawmaker steps down after pissing in a coffee cup during zoom meeting..
Wtf, so many questions..

Sopwiths North? love to hear your thoughts, who is this guy?

Yeah, sorry, I don't know what the deal is there. I did hear that he was going to take some time off, so I assume he's got some personal stuff to work through. It's not really the kind of story I care much about, to be honest. They just discovered 215 children's bodies buried at a residential school here in B.C. That's a story that deserves attention.

that’s horrific, the Catholic Church has a lot to answer for…
Hopefully law enforcement can investigate what happened there without interference, seems like the world needs answers…

The Catholic Church is massively culpable, but so are the powers around them. 215 children don't just go missing and wind up buried at their school without all levels being aware. The police had to be aware, the government had to be aware. The official line at the time was "they must have all just wandered off and gotten lost." This won't be the only school either. There will be other gravesites like this, and we need to look for them now.

We can't keep ignoring that what we have done to our First Nations people here is genocide. Like you, I hope that it gets investigated. But we still don't know the whereabouts of over 4,000 missing and murdered aboriginal women in our country that the RCMP ignored for decades, and recent government "truth and reconciliation" has still failed. It's ALL levels. This is what systemic racism looks like. It is very real. And it's still happening.

"An apology doesn't mean anything to me. I want the whole world to know what went on. I want them to know what happened to us."

This phenomenon isn’t isolated to just Canada, question has to be asked why are all these mass grave sites popping up next to Catholic orphanages all over the world..

Ireland

Scotland

I listened to a horrific story about an Orphanage in Florida, Dozier school for boys but better known as ‘The White House’. The stuff they got away with is mind boggling. Happened here too. My nan was given up by her mum when they got to Australia, she was put in an girl’s home. Mum said she had scars all over her body, her back was literally covered in scars.

It's abuse of power, which isn't really a phenomenon. I couldn't open the Scottish article, but the story about unwed mothers and their children being abused in a Catholic-run country isn't surprising. The Catholic church is responsible for carrying out some of the most heinous abuses of power over the helpless in the history of mankind. But they don't do it in a vacuum. There's a certain level of institutional tolerance that's existed to let it happen, and go unchecked for centuries.

It's the same with our residential schools - the government funded them, the church executed the plan, and law enforcement ignored the crimes. It's systemic.

"Residential schools were government-sponsored religious schools that were established to assimilate Indigenous children into Euro-Canadian culture.

"Residential schools were created by Christian churches and the Canadian government as an attempt to both educate and convert Indigenous youth and to assimilate them into Canadian society."

KEY FACTS ABOUT RESIDENTIAL SCHOOLS:

What were residential schools? Residential schools were government-sponsored schools run by churches.

What was the purpose of residential schools? The purpose of residential schools was to educate and convert Indigenous youth and to assimilate them into Canadian society.

How many students attended residential schools? An estimated 150,000 children attended residential schools.

How many children died at residential schools? An estimated 6,000 children died at residential schools (records are incomplete).

How many residential schools were there in Canada? In total, over 130 residential schools operated in Canada between 1831 and 1996.
In 1931, there were 80 residential schools operating in Canada. This was the most at any one time.

When did the first residential school in Canada open? The Mohawk Institute in Brantford, Ontario, accepted its first boarding students in 1831.

When did the last residential school in Canada close? The Gordon Residential School in Punnichy, Saskatchewan, closed in 1996. It was the last federally-funded residential school in Canada.

.

"Bodies of children were not returned to families, and parents rarely learned the circumstances of a child’s death. Often, the only death notification would be to send the child’s name to the Indian Agent at his or her home community.

" In 1938, after one mother near Cornwall, Ont., learned of her son’s death at residential school due to meningitis, she was denied a request to return his body home for burial. “It is not the practice of the Department to send bodies of Indians by rail excepting under very exceptional circumstances,” read a response from the Department of Indian Affairs, adding that it was “an expenditure which the Department does not feel warranted in authorizing.”

This shit is ****ed up hey. I've heard about this before but I dunno if it was this school.

There was some horrific things went on at some of these schools. Really depraved, abusive stuff. Mind boggling.

There is some dark stuff in Canada tho. Robert Pickton is just the tip of the iceberg.

Edit - Just saw you mentioned the missing women.

There is some dark sh*t in the world Val.
I was watching my best little mate at a birthday party last weekend .... about 15 little sugar injected turbo charged ratbags zinging from pillar to post, having the time of their life. There are hierarchies, rules and all sorts of stuff going on, but each of them would stop whatever they were doing if they saw something more shiny to do, and nobody else cared, and they carried on regardless. Fun to watch.

So just jumped on the AFL site and thought I'd check out the round centre, was a tad surprised by what I came across...

The date is wrong, yeah? If not this virus is a lot worse than we first thought.

Yep. In one of those articles I posted it talks about other gravesites that have been found in recent years at other residential schools across Canada. One of them had 72 bodies. And yet, still no formal investigation. First Nations people have been left to spearhead any work themselves, by way of government grants and the help of academics from universities.

A mass grave is a crime scene. It's not a historic site or a heritage site. It's way past time we stopped treating the finding of remains of Indigenous people as some sort of heritage issue.

On the plus side, this is the first time a mass grave like this has received widespread media attention. I have to trust that it means something will change. It's time we got started.
