I can see them flexing their military muscle regional to try and satisfy the needs they require. I know people are calling for us to stop exporting iron ore to them, but I have heard that China has been dumping iron ore in the ocean near major ports for reclaiming later if the shit hit the fan with Australia.CPofC will be banging on the door with their begging bowl in the future.
Their managenent of their own resources, be it water, land, minerals and people will see them tip over the edge.
Dictators make many enemies and Xi and his cronies are racking them up internally and even as far as places like Peru by sending 250 - 300 fishing vessels to " fish "
Hope l live to see them fail. They need a Gorbachev. Hopefully one in the ranks.
I haven't heard of that however they do seem to be putting a lot of resources into African iron ore projects.I can see them flexing their military muscle regional to try and satisfy the needs they require. I think it's idiotic to keep stirring them up. We've been goading them for the past year or so, and they've been biting back as well. Never fully trust them but the same can be said for every great power. I think it's clear that for a while there we were backing Trump on his hostility towards China and for some reason have decided to continue even though he's on the way out. Just my $0.02. We whacked duties on their steel right as the USA-PRC trade war was heating up and then acted offended when they hit us with barley tariffs. It's just been escalating ever since then and I don't trust the current Australian leadership to de-escalate.
I've seen more outrage in Australia about the image they posted than the revelations of what our troops did. And that's abysmal.
I don’t like that they’re trying to strong arm us into being subservient, so I think fu** em. Yeah it’ll hurt our export industry, but we can’t be a client state of the CCP either. They need to be held accountable for what they’ve done to the world.
We're pretty much a client state of the USA though. A country which led the way in COVID denialism, which strong arms us into supporting their endeavours, has launched more military campaigns across the world than any other country, etc.
Not saying a pivot towards China is any better but it's all gotten very tit-for-tat and I feel that people have forgotten we threw the first 'tit'.
It's all well and good to say '**** em', but I don't think we should have a sook when they stop treating us preferably as a trade partner after doing so. I'm also not sure the average person who supports hostility towards China is aware of just how badly that will **** our economy.
I'm all for economic independence, but you can do it amicably, and at the very least you should prepare for it first, not just fire from the hip because a (now outgoing) president from another country decided to do the same.
I'd personally just like to see de-escalation.
By first tit are you referring to Australia calling for an investigation into China’s handling of the Coronavirus?
Steel tariffs.
Plus, re COVID, we were just mouthing off. They didn't handle it perfectly but they still have the world weeks and months of notice and most countries proceeded to do SFA to protect their residents. The whole argument lost weight when the USA and most of Europe through their hands up and let hundreds of thousands die to save a bit of money. If they got another month's warning from China it would have made zero difference IMO. COVID just became another pawn in Trump's trade war and we gladly took up the cause for him.
The whole thing is just a mouthing off session.
Remind me, was the steel tariff before or after the stopped taking our recycling?
I've lost track now, but things have been getting tense in coincidence with America's trade war. I just don't see the point.
Spose the point is we can’t bend over for money
We already do. We send our young men to go die on behalf of another country. Opposing needless tit for tat hostility and cheap political point scoring isn't 'bending over'. As I said, I think a diverse, relatively independent economy is a good thing. I just am not surprised when cheap shots at our biggest trading partner end up in retaliation. And then we take another shot. And then they do. And then it spirals. Not ideal.
Without America as allies we’d be f’ed. Proper f’ed. And at least we know we can trust the yanks. The CCP can’t be trusted at all.
Hard disagree on trusting America but I'll leave it there.
Of all the things that fooked up the relationship Australia signed a defence pac with India and Japan.Without America as allies we’d be f’ed. Proper f’ed. And at least we know we can trust the yanks. The CCP can’t be trusted at all.

Especially when Modi and BJP are up there with the nutcases of the world..
from a China perspective not a good look when three semi powerful nations sign an agreement targeting you.

The ole shut up and buy our iron ore argument..That’s our business. China aren’t our allies.
The ole shut up and buy our iron ore argument..
strategically you can see why Indian joining up might’ve pissed off China.
