Maybe they’re concerned because of all the shit people are consuming now in massive quantities that we only really started to do over the last 50-100 years.
I’m always reminded of Malcolm Galdwell’s exploration into the change from animal fat to vegetable oil in revisionist history. Absolutely fascinating.

Some scientists have come to the conclusion that with the introduction of vegetable oil we’re currently, unintentionally going through a massive experiment that no one knows where it’ll end up. One of the scientists back in the day was convinced that animal fats were bad for us and did one of the most controlled and comprehensive studies trying to prove it, iirc he used psychiatric hospitals or might have been jails. He gave half the people foods cooked with animal fat and half cooked with vegetable oils. He was right in that the people who got animal fats had higher cholesterol but the thing was the people who had vegetable oils were (on average) dying younger. The bloke who ran the trail died without knowing what to make of it. He was shocked and a tad sad that he hadn’t proven what he set out to prove. However his son kept all the findings and his son passed them on to another researcher who is looking into what the dangers of certain things in vegetable oil is. Apparently there’s something in it that our bodies aren’t supposed to have a lot of

Yeah well with no scientific evidence supporting my opinion I think to much of anything is likely bad for you. People say beer is bad for you but drinkers regularly live to 100 years.

I personally have huge issues with decriminalising meth for the reasons you list above about its potential to turn people violent.

But right now the meth trade and more importantly the CASH associated with it is the biggest driver of criminal behaviour after family violence (I'd guess).

We need to take the cash element, the profit motive, out of it, before any of the treatment angles can really work.

Cartels in Mexico build their own infrastructure. That's how much cash they have. They will become states and are on the verge of it now.

Cholesterol isn't bad for you, that's the biggest myth of all. It's better to have more than to have too little.

In addition, 85% of the cholesterol you produce is determined by your genetics, not what you eat.
