came back from morning peninsula and stopped off at the fisho just out of tooradin to do our bit for the WA cray fishermen, must say he was doing a pretty good trade.

Im hoping to do my bit too today for them, cheap lobster 👍👍👍

The ones out my way are glossy with fine hairs on their legs. Hard to see from the above pic but they usually have super fat boxing glove fang holders (I have no idea what the term for the part that houses the fangs is) compared to funnel webs.

That spider is the spitting image of a few Northern Rivers Funnel Webs I've seen, and they don't have the same fang holders. (I looked that up, they are called Chelicerae.) Boxing glove is certainly a very good description of the Mouse Spider ones tho... They'd look a fair bit bigger even in that photo I think.

Also if you look at the spinnerets on the back of it they are big. Mouse spiders usually have smaller ones.

Spider legs are described using the same description we use for bones in our legs, so the section of leg to the first joint is called the Femur, then the Tibia etc. Male Funnel Webs have a spur on their Tibia joint of their second leg (from the front) but that one doesn't seem to have it (its like a little spinneret sticking out of the leg.) I can't see one anyway. So it might be a female.

If it wasn't for the missus I wouldn't be that into spiders but I sussed out those Funnel Webs as soon as I started noticing them, before the missus got spider happy. Just cos they are a common sight. But they aren't aggressive. I found one mulching when I was working on a bamboo farm years ago and hassled the crap out of it with a long stick. It was reluctant to attack the stick even tho it seemed to be getting annoyed. From what I understand of Sydney Funnel Webs they'd ignore the stick and go for your foot or run up it and go straight for your hand.

Thanks Ferbs! We get plenty of mouse and trapdoor spiders out my way and first thing I thought of was a mouse spider. But I don't think it's fat enough for that.

vegetarian

a person who does not eat meat or fish, and sometimes other animal products, especially for moral, religious, or health reasons.

And is very easily pushed of the ball in a one on one marking competition whilst playing AFL.

Absolutely. I’ll probably get flamed for this but veganism is not the absolute best possible diet for an AFL footballer.

There’s a reason why other vegan athletes in power type sports, like fighters, for example Nate Diaz eat a more balanced diet when training for a fight.

I don't see the correlation between veganism and Ben Brown's game.

His traditionally accurate goalkicking, genetically strong tank and smart leading aren't by-products of his lifestyle.

Nor are his appalling ruckwork, lack of consistent physicality or relatively poor (for his size) demonstrated ability to split packs.

He’s never been able to put on size. Who knows, with a more healthy diet he would have and added another strength to his game by being able to hold his ground. Anyway, that’s Melbourne’s problem now

I found this badboy the other week (think it's a black house spider). Apologies for the poverty pic, I only had my phone on me which I use when on the tools.

How big?

And whereabouts are you, approximately?

I think white tails have four markings on the back like that. But it looks like an orb weaver the way its holding its legs and just from its general shape but its back end looks the wrong shape for that - a bit too round. Its should be more obviously triangular. At least the ones I see are. MY missus can send a copy of the pic to one of her online spider expert mates, she reckons they will have no trouble IDing it.

It looks like a mean mofo doesn't it.

Western suburbs Victoria, it was probably about 35mm-40mm from head to tail? It was super aggressive too, killed it when it came at me (usually don't kill spiders unless aggressive).

Lol you have been saying this sh*t for years, he was playing good footy as a vegan and this an intellectually disingenuous argument. At least back it up with something.

Name one champion vegan in a sport that requires power.

And I mean champion. Not just a competitor

vegans are a thin slice of the population and champion athletes are an even thinner slice of the population. just because you can't conjure up an example of the top of your head doesn't mean one doesn't or can't exist

My point is that if it was the optimal nutritional diets for power based athletes, they’d all do it. But they don’t because it’s not. Kids don’t come into the AFL system needing to bulk up and get put onto a vegan diet because that wouldn’t work
