I have really tried to detach myself from the us election. But this is something that got me thinking.

Could you imagine a course of events where in Australia voters went to polling booths on election day and there were groups of people so riled up that they were armed and trying to intimidate others into not voting.

I doubt it is something we would ever see.

It is crazy to juxtapose the US system where they are seemingly able to place hurdles in front of a great many people to prevent them from voting whereas in Australia we have a system that penalises people if they ever enrolled and don't.

The Australian system is not without its flaws, I am not all in on preferences, and I can't say that our two party preferred system is the absolute best due to the amount of politicking and pandering it creates. but holy f*** we are just better than they are. And we are not even a republic.

They can have the worlds biggest freedom cake on the lawn of the whitehouse and cut it into 331 million pieces and they still will not have the sh*t we do.

They are a broken country with historical deepseated issues they have sold themselves completely to the highest bidder.

Can you imagine if a bunch of poor aboriginal people, or Asians or Lebs or Arabs or any other minority went to their local polling place and there were a bunch of liberal party voters with a list of names and they were stopping anyone with those names voting unless they had ID proving they were a different individual with the same name in Australia?

If three people with the same name were voting then they'd all be stopped.

Cos this is happened for decades and it was documented in 2000. The number of people who were denied their right to vote in parts of Florida due to Republican voter repression plans was actually higher By a significant number than the the votes Bush won Florida and subsequently the 2000 election by.

I'm no fan of Tipper Gore's dumb **** hubby but can you imagine how different the world would be right now if that happened?

At my local polling place one Election Day the Nationals (Libs didn't run one) and Greens candidates spent two hours gas bagging about what was wrong with one of their tractors and were so into it they stopped handing out HTV cards for an hour then pissed off of try and fix it.

Its like a different planet.

I think this is accurate. I think the worst possible outcome is a close election in either direction

A close Biden win and Trump will probably refuse to accept the results, declare victory, and there will be fighting in the streets before Christmas before the Supreme Court can sift through the entire mess

A close Trump win and everyone who claims to be "left" will go straight into the streets protesting the results a la Portland, and that will be carte blanche for Trump to rile his supporters into fighting in the streets

I believe for any stability at all to return to the States, both foreign and domestic, it has to be an overwhelming, unquestionable Biden win - and even then, I don't think that completely rules out Trump claiming a fraudulent result and whipping his supporters into a frenzy
