You’re pretty big on that. I can’t see it getting that bad tbh

Ahhh yes, the purity of human nature will shine through!

Meanwhile we have a society turning away from enlightenment fundamentals.

If a family is on the poverty line and they have to chose between a pack of 10 schnitzels for $10 made from fat and scraps or a couple of chicken breasts for the same amount it’s sort of tough. There’s heaps of examples like that. Mince is another. Or even choosing between cage eggs and eggs from somewhere the chickens have a half decent life, whilst not a health choice someone living on the poverty line can’t afford to make an ethical choice.
Whilst i agree to some degree your example is pretty simplistic. Take rice for example. You could prepare a rice based dish cheaper than both those examples. Whilst i maintain people lack discipline there is also a lack of education in some demographics. Especially people that come from households that have always practiced poor neutritional eating habits.

Iam sure iam not telling you anything new but take a look at some of the contents of fellow shoppers trolleys. Full of expensive processed junk. And these are their staples so we are not even taking into account the take out foors they may be eating.

Heard a story from a bloke who advertised for 3 positions the last 6 months up here and the responses were pathetic...one even told him why would I work for that when I get $1500 doing sfa?

Anyway he finally got some blokes.

After one year with overtime etc his 2018 intake bloke went from $60k to $110k this past year

That’s why nothing gets made here anymore. The forklift driver at Ford used to be on $150k a year.

The worst poverty I ever saw was in Varanasi India and a line of 200m of women begging for rice grain...individual grain

At least the forklift driver at Ford was involved in the generation of production.

There's completely useless bureaucratic paper shufflers who are STILL on significantly more than that......because they're migrants..............or women...........or pansexual.........or indigenous...........

The trick is to succesfully establish a victim niche inside the ALP, then wait for them to get in to power.

True. Convenience plays it’s role

Totally. As you say, poor people can only afford sh*t food.

Cooking has become culturally very bourgeois too.

I always think of the famous British example where Jamie Oliver wanted to make free school lunches which of course they call dinners healthy and parents were pushing burgers and chips through the fence for kids who didn't like it.
They are only eating the crap their parents are pushing through the fence because their tastes are conditioned to it. I used to have 2 sugers and milk in my tea because i grew up with it. Over the years i reduced suger and milk in my tea to completely black. Now my tastes are conditioned that if someone prepares a tea for me with suger i find it unappetizing. My dads a great (or from a health perspective poor ) example. He adds copious amounts of salt to any meal even before he tastes it and determines if it even needs so. Purely habitual behavior.

What’s a pansexual?

Its only a small part of the equation especially in heavily automated industries. Have a look at all the cost of red tape such as permits, state local and federal taxes, endless agencies you need to gratify before you even tirn the first sod of soil on a greenfield site and yoi get a better idea of the impidents facing local buisness. I experianced these first hand setting up our agricultural operation. And all before paying a single dime in wages.
Compare that to some asian countries where they welcome you in with open hands to set up there. And often let you bypass all the red tape with a little back hander. Not saying this should be condoned but unfortunately its the current reality.

Yep. People can change and it is easier than they think.

Nothing gets made here because governments of both stripes chose to kill manufacturing.

Germany is a massive exporter and manufacturer and they do it with a high wage setting.

I'm pretty sure that Whitlam signed this country up to the Lima Declaration, but it's also a fact that profit knows no state boundaries.

In which you also end up with disastrous pollution, dangerous workplaces and what amounts to slave labour.
