Unlike google the campaigners. Biasing search algorithms, removing videos from youtube. I don't care how much crap they speak on some of those videos, some are genuinely hilarious. Some are just challenging fairly fairly unreasonable ideas. Google search is ****ed these days anyway. It takes ages to find alternate views on their search engine. We don't know what sites are excluded or how the algorithm really works.

A foreign corporation is holding you hostage because they don't like what your democratically elected government is doing to control their power and protect our national interest. This is exactly why there are laws against monopoly behaviour. I say **** 'em. Surely there is room for a better search engine now. Lets build one...

Its not just google, its also facebook using other people's work in their news feeds. Its aimed at redistributing advertising revenue in some way. Google gets over half the advertising revenue in Australia these day. (Not sure how much of that is passed on to content creators tho, there could be alot of it passed on for all I know.)

Yeah except this law doesn't appear to be about constraining Google's algorithm or anything of the sort, but merely getting them to funnel money into a bunch of dying and also pretty damn insidious media organisations who actually have traffic directed to them by Google.

I’d like to agree hear but if we do want Australia stories and content, the fight with big tech needs to happen..

They honestly need to be broken up but that’s not a fight australia can have.

Fair point but its not just Morloch media that miss out on revenue because of this. This law would send revenue to smaller media orgs like Crikey, Sat Paperetc etc and maybe even the ABC and SBS. Which is necessary. We need as much money going into media work as we can get now we have such a ****ed up media landscape. And IMO Google is as insidious as News Ltd anyway.

That aircraft was bound for Miami via Nauru.

As I've said in other threads I don't really buy the 'big tech' hoo hah. It's no different to big media, or big fossil fuels, or big whatever.

This isn't even a fight with 'big tech'. It's trying to funnel some of Google's profits into Rupert and Costello's dying media platforms, when Google drives traffic *to* them.

If people want Australian stories and content then they'll search for Australian stories and content. I have literally never had an issue with getting Australian news media via Google in the past.

What would have happened is one of these media moguls would have run the numbers and seen that Google is helping to drive people away from their own traditional stranglehold on news media, undercutting their profits, and they would have begged their mates in parliament to do something to line their pockets again.

They could just monetize their own pages as every other news outlet does? Hell, the more traffic gets driven to them by Google, the better for their pockets.

I really don't see how making a search engine pay you for the favour of directing people to your content is sensible in the slightest.

I imagine that something like that could be quite traumatic for the pilots, especially if they're the type to dwell on what ifs.

Staff being LAMEs- aircraft engineers.
The same crew are operating that aircraft tomorrow morning subject to it being fit to fly.

This flight is sending the aircraft overseas to be turned into a freighter and it's a contract job.

The crew operating it are long haul (international) from the QF dreamliner (787).
