Pretty much nailed it.

A hyper capitalist society where the system is designed to make money for corporations and the rich (allowing some access to a very limited number of emerging wealthy to make it) whilst ignoring the everyday people without whom none of this would exist. It's just like Russia, except that system is designed around Putin and his cronies.

Managed democracy. Oligarchy.

Not capitalist in a sense Adam Smith would recognise

Hardly surprising. They are conservative government supporters.

Stock closed at $347 a share and is down to $292 after hours?

Is the arse falling out of it already?
I think anyone who yolo’d this stock would be wise to get out, as in a week or so it’ll be nuked and other hedge funds are going to profit massively.

great advertising for the stock market thou.

But you’re mixing a currency transfer method like Western Union with a currency which is backed by a nation.
Using bitcoin to purchase something online as ‘supposedly anonymous’ is something entirely different from holding it as a spec currency.

the issue is, in some countries (Denmark etc) the cash rate is negative, which means you are paying the bank to hold your money.

Why would you do that if you can hold it for free and no one knows who owns it?
I guess we have to wait for Narcos Season 6 to see how involved these types of cartels are in hiding their money in these instruments. After the Panama Papers, I'd imagine this would be the number 1 way to launder and hide ill gotten gains which by extension dictates that inflows aren't exactly going to stop/slow down any time soon.

BTC is probably a buy on mega-dips until then, probably look at USD weakness in terms of finding the appropriate cross (if trading a BTC CFD).

America is broken...
millions will have to pay back unemployment benefits during covid crisis..

To be fair, what's the difference between that and us robo debting people who had no income and living paycheck to paycheck?

Absolutely none..
the Morrison government should’ve been hung drawn and quartered for that, more then they were..

LA was one of the only places that had full lockdown, people weren’t allowed to work and they never got the safety net, that we were given. now they’re being told you’ll probably have to pay whatever money we did give you back...

There’s going to be some mighty pissed off people.

I just learned an interesting thing that informs me a bit more on why things in the states are so ****ed up. I have questioned how it is possible that the government is unable to fund adequate universal health care, proper policing, proper education etc and realised that the state of California for example has an income tax rate of up to 13.3%, which is deemed so high that professionals are leaving the state en masse to protect their income. And 13.3% is the highest tax bracket for people earning over $599k. I then checked and found that this is the highest rate of income tax in the US.

How the **** is a government supposed to fund adequate programs if people pay **** all income tax, and those who can afford good accountants end up paying far less then expected?

Correct me if I'm wrong but don't they have tax at a number of levels? E.g. state, federal, etc.

Ah, so they do! Thanks for pointing that out.

Their federal rates combined with their state rates end up looking fairly similar to what we pay here.

No worries. I only know because it always forms part of the argument of Americans misperceiving their tax burden compared to social democratic countries. They tend to think those countries are taxed 2-3x as much off the every day Joe when really it's not that great a difference.
