Unless its actually true. Which is what discord claimed, they also claimed they'd issued multiple warnings. Timing is still sus as tho.

No doubt plenty of nasty crap.on the Discord.

They are worried about it becoming public.

They didn't care when it was under the radar.

I just learned an interesting thing that informs me a bit more on why things in the states are so f’ed up. I have questioned how it is possible that the government is unable to fund adequate universal health care, proper policing, proper education etc and realised that the state of California for example has an income tax rate of up to 13.3%, which is deemed so high that professionals are leaving the state en masse to protect their income. And 13.3% is the highest tax bracket for people earning over $599k. I then checked and found that this is the highest rate of income tax in the US.

How the fu** is a government supposed to fund adequate programs if people pay fu** all income tax, and those who can afford good accountants end up paying far less then expected?

That is a state tax on top of federal income tax. States get most of their money like in Australia through federal distribution of taxes, like in Australia some states contribute more than they get from the government.

I was just saying to VK in a pm chat that the whole GameStop saga is a real unifying moment for a lot of people. Akin to the wonderful Bernie memes.

Us, the people, deserve fair and free markets, not cronyism and other unsavoury practices like protecting hedge fund groups from losing their money to the common man, by banning trading, subreddits and discord channels.

There are a lot of people in this WSB thing to make profits but I'm seeing more and more people willing to write off smaller sums of money in the name of sticking it to those ****ers who destroyed an economy in '08 and got off scott-free. This is getting closer and closer to the most revolutionary(?) political economic rupture point that I've ever seen in my short life time, in terms of consciousness of the wider significance of what people are doing and the novelty with which they are doing it.

Not just ‘08, it looks like these guys have been caught with their pants down naked short selling, although you’ve gotta wonder if this is going to turn into a major sell off of junk stocks to the American people... American Airlines anyone?

So now the Robbinhoodapp has restricted access to GameStop, AMC and a few other stocks (sorry stonks).

People will sue over that. They really are in some sort of battle.
No, no no, you don't understand! They're protecting their users from dodgy investments! They should be applauded for protecting the little guy!

Now when do I get my cheque?

They might as well shut up shop now. They just ****ed over their entire base to literally do the opposite of their branding.

Ah, so they do! Thanks for pointing that out.

Their federal rates combined with their state rates end up looking fairly similar to what we pay here.

My youngest brother’s been living in Manhattan for many years and the one level of tax he says is toughest to handle is the city tax for local residents. Between that and real estate prices (rent or buy) the bulk of Manhattan’s working class are unable to actually live within a bull’s roar of the place, instead commuting from far flung ‘burbs way out of town or out in New Jersey.

According to him the combination of various tax levels (for a New Yorker living in the city) makes it more heavily taxed than here. It’d be far different for middle Americans living out of Cali and NY though.

This Robinhood thing is absolutely insane. The piece they put out announcing why they're stopping people buying those stocks is a disaster. It's some of the most catastrophic PR seen in a long time. Six and a half thousand responses under the tweet in under 10 minutes. And the irony of their name is just so perfect. Haha holy shit.

Surely this episode is the most incontrovertible proof to even the most naive of people that the whole system is absolutely cooked, designed to make the rich get richer and nothing else.

US market capitalism under sustained assault from below and the political enforcers change the rules of the game to benefit the already obscenely wealthy.

Three weeks after a mob stormed the Capitol with the aim of overthrowing democracy and murdering lawmakers en masse.

But yeah, women's footy is the true problem.

That's where the really smart people focus their attention, on stopping women playing footy.

You don't even understand what is happening here re GameStop. It is too sophisticated for your limited worldview and experience

Time to be quiet and let the people who do understand how the world actually works have a sensible conversation.

I fully expected a bunch of people to be left with nothing but squat. I expected billion dollar speculators to cry for bail outs.

But, as cynical as I am about capitalism, I did not expect to see what RobinHood has allegedly done. My guess is that they have less in assets to lose in a law suit than the hedge funds stand to lose in their short positions.
