Maybe, I'm just puzzled by the level of investment.

I suspect it was Trump's ability to corral and motivate a demographic which once featured as a partial democratic demographic, the working class, although it doesn't apply so much there as it does here.

There is merit in claiming that the true working class have moved to "the right", only when it's viewed through the lens of the middle/bureaucratic class taking over the Democratic Party, driving it to the left, and utilizing it for their own purposes. The working class haven't really moved, it's the shifting of the left wing poltical parties that has given rise to this illusion.

The abandonment of the working people is the major destabilising factor of western politics. They are angry and they have every right to be that way.

This theory has long been debunked. Trump's support was largely middle and upper middle class.

The actual working class in the US voted for Biden in huge numbers in both the primaries and the actual election, which is why he won.

As someone with a lot of family and friends in eastern Europe and in Russia I'm so disappointed to see that they've become the liberal bogeyman, and in many cases some outright racist crap towards that part of the world gets said by people who would call themselves progressives.

Eastern Europeans and the Chinese seem to be the only people against whom it's okay to stereotype, to whip up hatred against, etc. when it comes to liberal discourse.
