I figure that lots of stabbing of the piece of sh*t would be quite therapeutic.

People actually treating them with respect and not assuming they've made it up better

It’s a giant debt trap in a way. You have to keep going to get anywhere. Should have stuck with law.

Law the only degree more useless than the arts

Thats actually an accurate summatiuon of a wasted opportunity.
I defended myself as a teen in the williamstown magistrate court for minor trivial offenses like not having a valid ticket at 10.30 pm on the St Albans line at Footscray Station and litering. I requested the matter to be dealt in court and pleaded not guilty.
I cross examined the police, got a favourable judgement, a bit of an applause from some in the court room. Had the copper stand in my way as I exited the room, looking down at me and saying im just a lucky *er.
Had a barrister chase me out, offer to take me to lunch. Said I should pursue law as i had a natrual talent...

does anyone here actually HAVE an arts degree?

Yes. Arts/Law. It was useful and IMO more difficult to get a high grade in than Law, but much easier to just pass.

There's plenty of fluff subjects but you can definitely use an Arts degree to pursue your interests. The issue is that the general skills translate as 'general' when you go into the workforce, and the days of people being good at the general rather than the specific having a high likelihood of a rewarding career are probably gone.

Australian film shot in Radelaide.. probably one of the few that didn’t get shut down last year.

Useless fact of the day: the first one will have been released for 26 years in August
I miss Christopher Lambert though

I mostly agree with this and think both this and the purpose of an Arts degree is something that gets misunderstood by both the "heh heh Arts degree is toilet paper" crowd and beginning students alike -- the latter probably as a result of bad or uninformed career advisors in high school.

It's not necessarily supposed to be an immediate path to a career in and of itself. It's effectively a springboard to teach students a lot of the theoretical foundations and academic skills needed to transfer into post-graduate, more specialised study. And this too is where students fall down too -- they take a variety of units that don't actually lead in any logical direction.

And like Themanbun says, it's not enough to just have those general skills anymore. It's something I know from experience now as well. I did an undergraduate course in political science and realised too late on that I needed post grad study to actually get anywhere. I considered a hyper specialised course on the humanitarian side of things, but thought that it would be far too limiting in my career prospects and availability if that makes sense. Did a post-grad in comms instead because when I was looking at graduate jobs in my field they were mostly comms-related, but now I've got kinda the opposite problem to what I had earlier. There's heaps of jobs that match my skillset, but they're ridiculous competitive and each one has about 300 ******* applicants, many of which require years of experience as well as qualifications, which I don't have.

Obviously, I'm venting a little there, but I think it's representative of a lot of students' experiences across a number of fields. There remains this assumption I think that a degree will automatically and immediately lead to a well-paying career, and it absolutely does for some people, but it's not always the case.

Hey Ryz is Ngannou fighting this weekend?

Edit- it’s on the 27th of March. Ages away. Not sure why I thought it was this weekend

Big heavyweight bout with Blaydes vs Lewis, should be a fun fight.
