Yeah I agree but I hope he donates his brain for CTE studies.
its prolly a bit different with regards to "celebrities" such as Sevile, I mean they really are only famous for being famous and cant be compared to sports people, artists or musicians who have hones specific skills or achieved high acculades in their fields. Then again you get the occasional personality that crosses over from accomplished sportsman to celebrity such as Sam Newman.

Did Japan leave them a choice? I’m not so sure. If Japan had the capacity they 100% would’ve nuked civilians. They didn’t even care about their own people, let alone other nations.
the choice was a full scale invasion of the home island costing an estimated 1 million allied casualties and adding another few years to the war or drop 2 bombs without fear of reprisal as they were the only ones to have them at the time.

The Jimmy Savile story is wild. Reckon there’s more to it that we’ll never know. Such a creepy looking bloke to. He actually looked like a stereotypical sex offender.

Oh yeah, plenty going on there.

I remember when I started working as a journo over there and finding out about him and bring like he's a paedo right and everyone shouting me down because he was a beloved childhood memory.

All it took was a Catalonia and a pandemic for the EU to shows it’s true colours..

On cancel culture

I’m not sure that’s cancel culture, because we certainly can have the debate about historical figures without urge to remove them.

what they’re basically saying is what someone’s ideals are in their youth must be the same ideals they share into adulthood.
humans are complex creature, we have the ability to evolve.

Again, did you even read the piece mate?

Where it spells out in detail repeated efforts to PREVENT debate on Churchill.

The people trying to cancel those events are those who squeal loudest about wokesters and cancel culture.

I was replying to your comment ‘on cancel culture’

academics complaining that they no longer have the ability to discuss historical figures because of political interference isn’t cancel culture, reread my post..

the writer trying to shift blame back onto the media/society/right wing elements because of this isn’t really news. It’s called blow back from a stupid movement.

SimpkinByTheDockOfTheBay i think this is something we’re never going to see eye to eye on..

our views worlds apart on the issue, destruction of historical monuments is never ok, regardless of what they represent and I don’t believe it’s helping trying to frame this as a left wing/right wing thing either because the pendulum always swings.

I’ll leave it up to you and the others to keep going in circular arguments.

So the Irish should have kept Nelson's Column out the front of the GPO where they literally declared their Republic?

Destroying historical monuments is literally human nature.

Circular debate...
have an old post.
Change the plaque, shifting them from the town centre or to a museum, all of these are reasonable suggestions.

But that’s completely different debate to abolishing them.

Wow, people bag WOKE thinking on here but also believe it is sensible to maintain a ****ing monument to foreigners that killed millions of your countrypeople.
