Cancel culture is a myth created by the msm. Don't get sucked into the outrage.
The golden gaytime petition that launched for Streets to change from an outdated name has 1200 signatures but has had 64 different news stories written about them with a total of over 100k in fb engagement. ExXgXY5U8AUhRMz.jpeg

It was funny watching some prominent members of the LGBTQ+ community come out (phrasing!) on social media and say that they'd effectively riot if Gaytime changed their name. Some, and I say some because it's usually trash like Daily Mail, media organisations know, however, that foaming at the mouth from morons about this sort of thing is worth a lot in clicks and eyeballs. Not only is it disappointing but it's also actually a little dangerous because said morons think it's a widespread movement and then target their anger at people and communities who already might be vulnerable and it just feeds into the never ending culture war nonsense.

Christ people are still going on about the seuss thing?

So a publisher stops producing 6 of the least popular titles in a series of like 40 books, who the F cares?

How many here were planning on ever picking up a copy of any of the books?

Do people not think a business should be free to decide what items it does and does not sell?
Cancelled my bum.. I can go on my kindle and grab a dozen seuss titles right now if I wanted. And the funny thing is there's people out there swearing off buying another seuss book because of this attack on their rights.

you lack any nuance
In fairness, so did your original post.

CC is more related to the little guy, more than Dr Suess and Golden Gaytime incidents that spring up every few months or so. It happens to individuals, to varying degrees, across different academic fields, organisations and workplaces. That is what prompted the Harpers Letter.

Whether each ‘cancellation’ is warranted can only be judged in each anecdotal/individual instance.

As for the Suess and Gaytime incidents, you have correctly noted that barely anyone complained in the first place, but companies often worry about their perceived image. Then some in the media jumps in to blow that up for attention. Those aren’t a part of CC in my opinion.

I wonder how many European drug dealers are, probably for the first time in their lives, incredibly frustrated about the Suez Canal right now

Not many. Coke goes across the Atlantic into West Africa and then up and over into Spain. Heroin comes overland through Iran, Turkey and the Balkans from Afghanistan.

Might affect MDMA quality, Dutch drug cooks waiting on precursors from Asia.

It goes in every way possible

$1500 AUD for an AK I wouldnt call cheap but i hear you can buy flogged out ones in africa for cheap. and yes like untracable given the amount of clone manufacturers of them , the wifes .22LR even cost us over $600AUD and i wouldn't call that cheap. you can get a bolt action .22 at walmart for closer to USD100, now thats cheap, https://brickseek.com/walmart-inventory-checker/?sku=140596624
Relatively cheap ($1500). And easily available. The person who brought it would have thought $1500 was cheap. They were pretty dodgy.

That bump stock video was pretty wild. I'd never actually seen one in action before and thought it was a bit over hyped but not anymore. Its a very clever piece of engineering. Bit of a mockery of anti full auto laws tho. Tho you can see from the video someone who can handle a gun and is familiar with it could probbly do more damage with a semi auto just cos its easier to shoot straight.

Americans have a real fetish for doing stuff to guns.

This is a bump stock set built for a ruger 10/22, which, when it comes standard looks just like a normal rifle (with a clip cos its a semi automatic .22, but a standard wooden stock etc.

That was originally a rifle built for shooting pests around a farm or rural property. With attitudes like that it was always gonna be this way.

the real problem with the seuss thing is that his books shouldn't belong to an estate, they should be in the public domain. it's always going to be possible to get the works of h.p. lovecraft no matter how cancelled he is because his work is all public domain, but thanks to corporations like disney, we have an insane copyright law that lets corporations keep profiting off the works of long-dead artists, preventing any derivative work that's not approved by them (think of all the different adaptations of sherlock holmes that are possible because it's public domain)

i should be allowed to make a mickey mouse cartoon if i want, and any publisher should be allowed to publish dr. seuss's works because he's dead and his work is a matter of history. it's a massive problem for historical archival that corporations can so tightly control the mountain of IP they sit on.

This I agree with. But as things stand, the rights to the books are with the estate and they are free to make whatever choices they want, and it's really a separate argument to wether or not the global cabal of leftists have cancelled the grinch and his associates.
