Both those are religous based traditions.
I think a vast majority of atheists celebrate both of those holidays.
Which doesnt make sense off course.
Picking apart aspects of those traditions, and determining them as being irrelivent doesnt make much sense.
Its the children that will miss out, as adults decide whats relevent and whats not.

They’re actually pagan rituals if you really care to look into it.

If folks here are so keen on faithfully observing Christian rituals, then I have some news for them regarding their diet, sex lives etc etc.

Unless of course it just more of the same old boring crap they engage in because they are too dumb to understand real politics.

Christianity in a nut shell.

Go to a place.

Co-opt the native festivals and deities.

Wait and rebrand.

The word Easter - not Christian
The whole thing about rabbits - not Christian
Cross buns - not Christian
Christmas - not in the right season but bang on winter solstice and Saturnalia
The story of the flood - present in like 5 different religions.

Why bother with Christmas and Easter full stop?
Seeing its culturaly irrelevant now.

You're seeing the results of it now.
The stuff about family, spending time together, exchanging gifts etc. as an annual tradition remains as a cultural staple whilst the religious stuff gets shed because it's not relevant to those that don't actively practice the religion.

It has literally nothing to do with being 'woke'.

Hey off topic, I just saw this. Rogan really did sell out....not that I blame him for the coin he got. Spotify just removed 42 episodes and there’s been no statement. f***ers. Check out this list. Some of them I kind of understand, (don’t get me wrong I don’t like any censorship) but some of them don’t make any sense to me.

I don't know why it's a shock to anyone. As Rogan said - he doesn't care.

Rogan cares about $$$. He's not some bastion of truth like some make him out to be.

He sells out to whoever pays the bills. He went soft on dorsey because he's funded by Square. He only talks about BTC because he's funded by Square and Dorsey is a BTC maxi. He was soft on jon jones pulsing usada incident because UFC pay his bills.

Rogan would go podcast in China for Jinping if the price was right.

Agree with all that except the last part. He’s a patriot imo. I’ve even wondered, with all the SEAL’s he has on if it’s kind of propaganda. Still an awesome podcast though. $100M to talk to interesting people...where do I sign.

Edit- did you look at the list?

The history is really interesting. Before Martin Luther translated the bible so the plebs could understand the priests, bishops and upwards were like rockstars and conned people to give them their riches and shagged so many women. Then they are forced to reform and we get the vow of celibacy which has caused so many problems since. It’s wild.

Dan Carlin did an episode on the fall out after Luther did what he did called “Prophets of doom” about what happened in Munster. Real wild that one.

Something similar happened between 15 and 25 years ago. A cyclone crossed the coast somewhere in the Kimberly, hit Alice Springs and made it all the way to Melbourne, tho it was only rain by that stage. Dunno if it was still a cyclone by the time it got to Alice. It was still a tropical depression strength weather event by the time it got to Vi

Do you ski/wakeboard? I’ve never been but I’ve always been told the river is way wider there then where I go (torrumbarry). It’s just such a long drive though

sadly age has put a halt to such activity's that and a complete lack of ability for such things but yeah the river is way wider up this end well worth the extra few hours of travel

yes and no,
they might have religiousle based connections, but the religions adoped these events from historic astronomical events ie, solstice and equnox. our familyt also are not religeous but we have adopted customs around these dates, like eating seafood at xmas and going away camping at easter. the relevance is what people chose to do to mark the dates.

Yeah age has caught up with me too. I don’t get on the wakeboard as much as I used to, we’re all about wake surfing these days. So much easier on the body.

A patriot...lol

He has SEAL's on because he's part of the MMA crowd. It's only natural to rub shoulders both in training and out and about. Plus they are interesting. Most of his audience don't know that world so want to hear about it and their perspectives.

It's okay. Overrated. Hit and miss like most podcasts but enough of them now to help pass the time.
