Got to watch my old man in his natural habitat today and was astonished. He sat there for hours watching video after video suggested to him on Facebook, typical right wing outrage politics stuff. This went on for hours and I could barely get a word out of him. He then shifted to the telly and flicked Sky News straight on.

I can handle my father holding different opinions. But he has become very bitter/angry/jaded and searching for the next thing to become furious over. His personality has changed a fair bit with this. I'm not a 'both sides as bad as each other' type, but I do think that it would be equally as unhealthy to digest such a high concentration of outrage media from any political affiliation.

I don't really know how to reach him on this. I've tried encouraging his hobbies, etc. I'm worried that as he shifts into retirement that the bubbly man I always admired and loved (and still do) will spend a large portion of what should be the time of relaxation and spending enjoying life with family, instead being angry and jaded all day every day.

Sorry for the dear diary post, but has anyone got any experience with trying to get politics-obsessed people to enjoy life a little bit more?

I have an auntie that happened to post retirement. My auntie has become so political that you can’t have a conversation with her about it, absolutely lovely otherwise. I have an uncle around the same age who has become addicted to Facebook since retiring, he sends me stuff almost everyday, always videos about crap that’s “wrong with Australia now” sprinkled in with the odd funny video. I stopped opening them ages ago.

I think it’s pretty common with people around that age that didn’t grow up with social media, or really much technology at all. They are more susceptible to the trickings of Facebook click bait fear mongering type stuff. I heard a comedian joke “All my auntie does is share QAnon conspiracy theories and recipes she likes”. Can relate.

You're not alone.

Yeah I really tried with this. I live a little bit away but see him twice a week and just remind him to get off his phone, try to get him in the garage to put some time into his hobbies etc. But that's only a short bit of respite from it all in the grand scheme of things.

He's addicted. You have to think of it in terms of a physical drug addiction.

If cooperate media is the tip, SM is the spear.
it turns people into junkies, unfortunately it’s the lonely older generation that jumped on to get updates from family and friends who suffer most, as they have the most spare time.
And are most vulnerable to memetic warfare.

If you can yet used to training without pre workout it will do you the world of good. Think I got addicted to that stuff in my early 20s. Creatine monohydrate is pretty much the only genuinely proven supplement and even then, anything short of SARMs or legit gear isn't going to improve performance too much.

Also need to be careful with pre workouts and drug testing. Lots of little compounds that really do not much can flag up as banned substances whenever WADA change their list.

Yeah I was definitely addicted to it last year and was forking out $80 for 30 serves🤡🤡 I had to gradually drop the dose of caffeine to then stop. I’m on my first actual tub of creatine and I feel much more stronger and powerful.

And who are least likely to be culturally adept enough to realise just how much they are being played and sucked in.

Said before, saying it again, Facebook is the East India Company of our times, selling us opium in the form of our dopamine.

Have you used sarms? I did it years ago. Gave me heaps more strength and the gain was ok but not worth the money. At the time was about the same price as juice. Pretty sure it made my hair thin out a bit too.
