We’re at the stage now where the vaccine is available and if people chose not to get it then they’re putting themselves and other people at risk, just like every other vaccine out there.

As in their base, the boomers? The very people that the whole country, especially young people who aren’t at as high risk and shouldve been out there enjoying themselves, instead wasted over a year of their lives protecting them. It’s so selfish.

Is that available? I think there should be a time limit on the people over 50 getting the vaccine and if they choose not to it’s on them. Give another time frame for everyone else that’s a time frame to get it and then we should just open everything up. International boarders and all. We need to move on.

If that doesn't satisfy you then nothing will. No amount of studies, reassurance by doctors or declarations is going to convince these modern day anti-covid-vaxxers that it is safe.

If I get the virus, in my demographic there is a 1/100, or 1% chance I will die from it, or at the least get some serious long term condition.

If I get the vaccine there is about a a 1/400,000 that I will get an adverse reaction (including death), about the same as most vaccines in reality.

Risk is likelihood vs consequence.

My risk profile is higher by not getting the vaccine. Rare and Catastrophic (Low Risk) is better than Probable and Major (High Risk) - Using my engineering Risk matrix that I use every day for work.

End of discussion, vaccination here I come.

Appreciate the response Val. It's a very divisive subject. I'm of the view that those that feel comfortable with getting vaccinated should go and get the shot. I'm also very respectful of those that have genuine concerns with the health risks associated with getting vaccinated and are choosing not to.
On a side note, the government continues to talk about 'herd immunity'. What is the percentage of Australians that would need to be vaccinated to achieve this? I've heard that around 40% of Australians either wont be getting the jab or are considering not getting the jab. Take into account the population of Australian's under 18 that aren't even allowed to be vaccinated and I struggle to see how this can be achieved?

While I don't agree with anti-vaxxers, Australia really is in a unique position where we can watch and wait a bit, after near complete eradication. The only way this virus runs rampant here is if we let it in. I don't see why we're rushing to vaccinate while it's running rampant and developing new strains in India. Should be pumping the vaccine doses as a concerted worldwide effort to where it's required, which right now we'd probably be at the bottom of the list.

That'd probably give us another 6 months to 12 months of data and may help to ease the concerns of those who fear that the vaccine may have been rushed.

If AZ is all that's on offer I won't be getting it, and that's on advice from my doctor.

Yeah look, I’m a semi illiterate chippy so I’m probably the last person to take medical advice from. I just look at the numbers of the probability of a bad reaction to getting vaccinated versus the probability of a bad reaction of getting covid and it seems pretty obvious to me that the vaccine is the way to go. I’m just grateful that we live in an age where vaccines are available and we don’t have to worry about all the horrific diseases that the generations before us had to live with.

Just to reiterate me take on it, I just saw this posted by sachx in another thread. Hope sachx is sweet with me posting it here. My own kids, had a pretty shit time last year away from school while my wife and I both had to work so I’m sure their schooling took a hit. That’s without taking into consideration of the social development of youngsters.

I finished last year and it was bad because we wouldn’t know if we were going to be at school the next day so like we always had to prepare for worst case scenario. Like and those last days at school before lockdown was hectic because everyone is rushing to get their stuff printed for exams.

The first lockdown was manageable but then it just went down hill. We had virtual graduation lol no formal.
